Ordered the chicken pho and the vegan pho without coriander (my partner is allergic to coriander)
Took quite a while to come (although they did have one large table in). Chicken pho came then waited a while for the other dish. I noticed the waitress picking coriander out of the vegan pho before serving. It was still full of coriander so we politely sent it back and asked for spring rolls instead. I thought it was bad that they tried to cover up including coriander in the dish.
In the meantime my chicken pho was pretty disappointing. Noodles were okay. I'm used to pho having at least beansprouts or some other veg in it.
After about 10 minutes spring rolls finally arrived. They were overfried and very basic.
When it came to pay the bill, I politely told the waitress that the pho was quite disappointing. She was a sweet woman but just explained that's how it is in North Vietnam. We paid and left. One thing in its favour: the little coffee sweets you get with the bill are tasty.
The next morning, my partner had an upset stomach. We're convinced it was due to this food.
Would never return and do not recommend. This is the first bad review I've ever left but its due to the quality, price and overall experience.
EDIT ADDITION IN LIGHT OF OWNER COMMENT BELOW: Thank you for your reply but as a restaurant owner, it concerns me that you don't know how food can impact the gut. We ate dinner around 21:00 and illness started the next morning. Gastric distress usually happens 1 to 3 days after ingestion. Illness can happen immediately, although this is only for highly poisonous food, which we weren't suggesting of the...
Read moreNot great. If you’re used to Vietnamese food in the US or Saigon/HCMC you’re likely going to be disappointed.
In summary: remarkably small serving sizes, flavors are kind of bland, expensive for what you get.
I had the bun cha, which was less than half the size of what I usually get in the US, but the same €10 price. It lacked vegetables beyond some lettuce and a sprig of cilantro and the nuoc cham needed more fish sauce, weirdly there was neither basil nor roasted peanut nor jalapeño or other hot pepper, and no soy/oyster sauce/chili sauce either.
The fried spring rolls were cooked well and served hot, but were lacking in flavor. What should have been nuoc Cham on the side for dipping tasted like plain vinegar.
My partner’s dish was around 1/3 raw sliced onion and inedible as served; it wasn’t too bad after she picked most of the onion off, but again, lacking in flavor/seasoning.
The tab for one appetizer, two small appetizer sized mains and a pair of 2€ beers came to 30€, which is quite pricey for what you get. Service was slow as well,...
Read moreWe ordered takeout Bun Cha and Nem Ran. The fried spring rolls were more like small bites. After the surprise at the size they were definitely not fresh as they were dried out and old. The Bun Cha meat was not heated but had spices and lots of (black) pepper. One order came without a salad greens and it's good we checked before leaving. This would have be somewhat OK if it had been half the price but at $24 Euro (includes a .70 each box charge) this meal still left us still hungry and without fond memories of what delicious Vietnamese food really tastes like.
UPDATE (Response) We live in Portugal and have no issues with the safety measures in place for Covid. In fact we went back to our flat after checking your operating time on the holiday, worked out what we would order, and came back at dinner time to order carry out. We did all that so we wouldn't enter the restaurant & stayed outside with masks. It's bold to assume we don't have test kits. We do but just choose not to use them for a dinner but rather had other activities...
