I recently visited Portela Cafés, drawn in by the promise of good pastéis de nata and coffee. In terms of taste, the café delivered—the pastel de nata was fresh, with a crispy, flaky pastry and a smooth, creamy custard filling. The coffee was also well-made, offering a rich and aromatic complement to the pastry. However, the customer service left much to be desired. Another Portuguese business that has no idea what they’re doing but they want to charge you like foreign businesses, just because they added something more than a dark roast robusta bica to their menu. “Flat white” with oat milk was 4.30 eur, and it was what it was. Even in the specialty coffee shops the price would be lower, with SCA certified beans and proper milk foam. Everything here is wrong on so many levels, I watched the “barista” lady froth the milk and something inside me was dying. So incompetent it hurts. I do not work in the area everyday, but for the last 4 years this has been a place that has never disappointed me. This counter is full of top notch professionals and today I just had to post a review because I watched Rafael Gil for a while and he went off the charts by the way he serves coffee and his clients... this is a lot of love ❤️.
