I never leave reviews, especially negative ones, but I feel the need to share the experience I had at this place today, which I feel was truly negligent and should be acknowledged as so. Unfortunately, The Green Affair failed to meet our expectations this time. I used to come to the restaurant a lot, and both the food and service were outstanding. Today, me and my boyfriend came here for lunch and left feeling very disappointed. Firstly, we had a reservation, but when we arrived none of the waiters talked to us. One even walked past by me and ignored me completely. Some time later, and after having to approach one of the waiters, we were finally sat at our table. Bear in mind that there were plenty of waiters and the restaurant was not crowded, they could have talked to us had they wanted to. After being sat and placing our order, we had to wait a long time - and even so, our appetizer came before our drinks. I’ve worked in hospitality, but you do not have to to know that this is a basic rule. Drinks first. When our drinks finally came, the ice in the glasses was molten, it was clear that the drinks were prepared beforehand and were forgotten. Then we waited nearly one hour for our food. I ordered a Winter Bowl, which was extremely bland, I daresay it was almost completely unseasoned. My boyfriend ordered the Katsu Curry, which was disproportionate, having three times more rice than anything else in the dish, but even worse than that, the side salad had LOTS of rotten lettuce leaves in it. Our side dish of french fries was completely forgotten and I had to remind the waiter as well. We were left underwhelmed, but we still decided to order dessert and give it a chance, which was a huge mistake. They only had one dessert available off of the menu - the Fruit Crumble, which I had had before and loved in previous visits - but what we were served today was easily one of the very worst desserts I have ever eaten in my life. The turmeric packed custard on top of the fruit was truly an appalling combination. I would like to think that we were just very unfortunate today, but I'm afraid the issues this restaurant has lie deeper than that. Very unlikely to return...
Read moreI adore The Green Affair Chiado but I was bitterly disappointed by this restaurant & won’t return. Terrible ambiance. Super bright lights everywhere (half of which could have easily been turned off) & the walls right at the entrance & throughout are full of dust! Super unfriendly, bored staff. Nobody smiled or asked us at any point if we needed something. From the looks on their face & body language it seemed serving us was an inconvenience. A huge contrast to the warm & attentive service in chiado. Tiny table… our bottle of water+two glasses and bottle of wine+two glasses were already overcrowding the table before any food arrived. When the food did arrive, it was a struggle to maneuver everything without something getting knocked off the table. The staff offered no solution. To start we had cauliflower wings & bruschetta… they were perfect, yummy as expected. The mains were awful! I’ve been getting the tofu à Lagareiro in chiado for years, it’s always 10/10 but here it was very poor quality… the potatoes with grelos were lumpy, very dry and flavorless versus in chiado where they’re seasoned to perfection, great texture & not at all dry. We also got the seitan bbq… I had the seitan steak in chiado many times, they make their seitan fresh from scratch in-house… it’s delicious, very tender, flavorful & a light spongey texture… the seitan here was inedible… it was very difficult to cut & had a gross rubber texture. It was supposed to resemble ribs… & it did! That’s if the ribs you were eating had no meat, only fat.
In addition, there was one table full of drunk tourists being excessively loud for the entire two hours we were there. Any restaurant that allows this behavior lacks professionalism or consideration for other...
Read moreUpon venturing to Green Affair on Av Duque Dávila, one is immediately struck by its aesthetically pleasing organisation. The tables' layout is rather more industrial than one might anticipate for a venue that dabbles in greenery and nature, but such incongruity is soon forgotten once you experience their culinary offerings.
We commenced our meal with vegetarian tacos, stuffed generously with mushrooms and topped with finely chopped onions—a touch of the accompanying lime is a delightful enhancement.
Our main course consisted of Saitan accompanied by sweet orange potato fries and a salad. We ordered an extra side of miso mayonnaise, a choice that turned out to be the crowning glory of the evening. This mayonnaise was truly extraordinary, pairing even more harmoniously with the potatoes than the other components on the plate. Although the dish was commendable, it lacked cohesiveness, saved, in part, by the exquisite mayonnaise we had fortuitously ordered for our starter.
Dessert was the pièce de résistance: a creamy chocolate cake flirting with the concept of pétit gateau, yet without a refined crust, served with an incredible coconut chantilly.
To accompany our meal, we opted for Estrella Damm, always a fine choice of beer.
In terms of value, there was nothing particularly remarkable to note. The Green Affair provides an experience that is as balanced as it is delightful, albeit with a few unexpected twists. The culinary finesse, especially the extraordinary mayonnaise, more than compensates for any inconsistencies in theme or decor. It's a destination for those seeking to indulge in something just a touch...
