This is a really cool spot, serving the great combination of small plates and natural wines! The actual venue is very interesting, with high ceilings and an industrial feel, as well as having the chefs table in open view which is always fascinating to watch. Firstly we ordered some bread to enjoy whilst we looked at the menu! We were provided with a portion of the sourdough bread baked in-house alongside octopus-infused oil, which was absolutely delicious and a great start to the meal. We then placed our order, two appetisers and two of the larger plates. We decided to try the fish of the day, which came in the form of two (very small) tacos. They were tasty, drizzled in a basil oil, and had a great texture with some crunch to accompany the tender raw fish. It was very different to anything we have tried before and really made the most of fresh local ingredients. We then also tried the mackerel (one portion per person required), which came torched and served on a lettuce boat. It was quite a generous portion of mackerel, although in the form of a small bite. The larger plates were our favourite part! We ordered the straciatella (the heart of a burrata) served with carrots and broad beans and again drizzled with delicious intensely flavoured oils (I believe basil and chilli). This dish was our favourite I would say, all the flavours and textures harmonised so well and the creamy cheese was mopped up happily by the homemade sourdough. We then also went for the off menu pasta dish, fregola pasta in a vegan XO mushroom broth, and egg yolk. We have never tried pasta like this before, it was almost ramen-like with rich umami flavour. It was really memorable dish, and I doubt I will try anything similar for a long time. After our meal we finished our wine, then had to pop out to get cash as they only accept Portuguese cards (this is mentioned on booking, however we missed it!), however upon return we were left waiting 20 minutes to pay. Whilst the staff were really welcoming and friendly, we found they weren’t the most attentive and it was hard to flag someone down to ask for another drink or the bill etc. This was our only criticism and we would definitely still return and recommend the restaurant to friends! This was a great dining experience, making the most of the amazing Portuguese produce cooked with Italian and Asian influences making for a unique, standout meal!

Get ready for a gastronomic thrill ride! This place is an absolute gem and promises to be a culinary adventure like no other. I stumbled upon it in the pages of the NY Times under "36 Hours in Lisbon," and the decision to try it during our Lisbon escapade was a no-brainer. Securing last-minute reservations at the coveted Chef's Table heightened our anticipation. The moment we stepped in, the vibes were nothing short of fantastic – a perfect blend of chic style without a hint of pretentiousness. The friendly and inviting staff ushered us to the Chef’s Counter, where our journey began with heavenly sourdough and exquisite olive oil. But hold on, it only got better from there. A chef, with passion oozing from every pore, approached us, delving into the intricacies of the restaurant and its culinary delights. The pivotal question arose: how hungry were we and did we want to take charge or surrender to the chef's whims? We opted for the latter, and oh, what a splendid decision it was. The culinary maestros orchestrated a symphony of flavors, presenting almost the entire menu in a thrilling succession. Seated at the counter, we had a front-row view of the kitchen, witnessing the artistry behind each dish. The team engaged us with captivating descriptions and anecdotes, making the experience not just a meal but a storytelling extravaganza. By relinquishing control, we let the chefs surprise us with culinary gems we might have overlooked, like the sensational mackerel. Normally not my first choice, but at Tricky’s, it was a revelation – a bite that became an instant favorite. The highlights were endless – the divine Octopus, the perfection of Beets, and the exhilarating freshness of Tuna. I could wax poetic about the food; it truly stands in a league of its own. Yet, what set this place apart was the people. Engaging with the entire team, even those usually behind the scenes, and immersing ourselves in their culinary journeys and inspirations made the night magical. It was the grand finale to our Lisbon adventure, and if this gem were in NYC, it would be our go-to spot without a doubt. I can't recommend it enough – it's not just a restaurant; it's an unforgettable experience.
