Unfortunately I have to strongly complain to the owners about their choice of various managers... being Italian and having noticed, walking, some excellent and fragrant pizzas... I visited the place about 4 days ago to kindly ask to book an outside table for me alone (1 person..!) at "Italian" dinner time i.e. 8.30 or 9.00 pm... the girl asked a young manager... very pretty... well made up.. but not very kind to the customers... who answered the girl with a dry NO without even approaching me to explain the reason for the NO... despite looking me in the eye from a few meters away!!! Huh! it doesn't seem like elegant and chic behavior towards a VIP clientele!!!!...Not giving up yet...an hour ago I came back to ask if it was possible...once again...to book a table for me outside only for tomorrow evening for dinner around 8.30pm or 9pm...this time a very young blond boy and a kind girl...I think Barbara..after a long conversation between the two of them...they explained to me that due to the property's policy they don't accept reservations for dinner..so I insisted again explaining to them that I spend the whole summer season in the Azores for years and that, being a good friend of Mrs. Tatiana, owner of another wonderful restaurant nearby (WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRYING FOR THE GOODNESS OF THE FOOD AND ABOVE ALL THE COURTESY OF THE STAFF IN GENERAL..!!!!)..the Louvre Michelense...and also of Francisco the manager of the Louvre Michelense... I have my table booked there every evening for dinner at 9pm!!!!!....the kind boy and Mrs. Barbara were kindly trying to find a solution for me that would please everyone when... suddenly another blond boy shows up entering the place saying that he was the manager of their other restaurant next door and, in a very rude and threatening manner... he scolded my tone, he said... strong (I believe it after 20 minutes of discussions to reserve a table for just one person and be able to eat a pizza!!!..) and shutting me up by saying WE DO NOT ACCEPT RESERVATIONS HERE OK!!!!... Obviously I will go to the Louvre Michelense every evening and, for a possible pizza I will gladly choose another good place.... however, I would just like to say to the owners that if they like to have high-level customers in their place and not just "tourists passing through"... then they should know how to choose their two managers better... the first girl from a few days ago and the last boy tonight who I had the MISLUCK to have met! Tonight I am having dinner at my beloved Louvre Michelense!!!!!...
Read moreThe most chaotic meal I had in the Azores. We arrived and wanted a table. Three waitresses went by me without even asking if they could help. I had to raise my voice a little to the third waitress to grab her attention. I asked if she had a table for two and she didn't even speak, just pointed at a table and went about her business. We were left menuless for 15 minutes, during which we tried to catch the waitresses' attention. When we finally got the head-waitress's attention, she asked why we didn't have menus by saying something like "you just grabbed the table." The head-waitress wasn't particularly polite nor nice, she was in fact the opposite of that. Throughout the evening we witnessed her being very rude and confrontational towards prospective guests (and to ourselves, of course).
We finally got some menus and ordered our food. The head-waitress asked if we wanted sparkling or still water, to which we replied still. Of course we got sparkling. I didn't dare say anything on penalty of having to put up with her rudeness.
My pizza arrived. My partner's didn't. And so we started sharing my pizza while hers was didn't come. I saw multiple tables getting their food at the same time, but I didn't say anything again. Because we were sharing the pizza directly from my plate, the head-waitress asked us if we wanted another plate, which was nice of her to do. When I replied with "No, that's okay. We're just waiting for my partner's pizza," she went on an aggressive rant about having told us about some kind of problem with the oven and a queue, which she hadn't actually told us.
The pizzas were quite good, but not worth 24 euros each. Mine was supposed to have gorgonzola and didn't (the Boschetto). My partner's wasn't supposed to have gorgonzola and did (the pear and walnuts one). Even if it was by accident, both pizzas became much better that way. And again, we didn't say anything to avoid confrontation.
What else could be said? The wine list is pitiful and includes an obscene markup (a 6 euro bottle costs 30). There are only two or three beers and they were expensive.
When it came time to pay, the head-waitress asked if we wanted to leave a tip. We almost burst...
Read moreWe’ve been there twice - first time for lunch and everything was ok, so we came back for dinner second time - and THE SERVICE WAS A DISASTER!
We ordered 4 mains and a sides. After one hour of waiting 2 mains came with info there is no sides, no even bread! After 1,5 hours we asked when we are supposed to get main courses for 2 other people - no answer (we asked 3 times). After 2 hours of waiting we asked a manager what we are suppose to do - she called an owner and offered us… free deserts. Can you imagine children sleeping on a table and hungry people who didn’t get a main course eating free deserts? I don’t blame a waitress - she was obviously not experienced, left alone and she didn’t even speak English. When we ordered Frappuccino (from the menu) we got… an espresso and the glass filled with ice cubes! As a customer I don’t care that they are lack of stuff - that’s the owners responsibility. If he opens a restaurant on Sunday (when most of other are closed) he should expect more clients and should care about a service. But he doesn’t care about you, how you feel in his restaurant and how you spend your time there. He cares only about the money you spend there.
I don’t recommend this restaurant. I was expecting elementary quality of service in such an expensive restaurant. My advice is to avoid this place and enjoy...
