Wasn’t sure about this place but decided to try it based on the reviews plus it’s next door to the hotel. Narrow cobbled street and a very discreet entrance. Black interior. Thought what the heck have I done. And then heaven opened its doors.
Impeccable waiter greeted us and sat us down in a huge room with high ceilings. Very nice. All diners seemed to be local posh crowd. Decided on the set menu of the day. Green bean soup, grilled hake with risotto type rice and crepe with dulce de leit.
Soup was good and thick, flavourful and delicious, served with hot crunchy bread literally just out of the oven. Didn’t last long before I was scraping the bowl.
Then the grilled Hake and risotto….oh my Gawwddd. Thick firm fillets of fresh melt in the mouth hake on a bed of risotto type thing. DELICIOUS!!!!! All I remember is me surreptitiously cleaning my plate with the last piece of bread praying the waiter wouldn’t take the plate away.
Dessert followed and once again not disappointed at all. Lovely crepe with and dulce the leit along with coffee wrapped it up nicely. All that for 15 euros. Yes yes 15 euros only.
Wish I had known this place as I would have eaten here every meal. I actually asked for help chef and shook his hand. Kissing him would have been a step too far!!!
So next time in Porto, don’t even think twice. Just go here (just don’t mistake with another cafe restaurant of the same name around...
Read moreTHIS REVIEW IS MAINLY TO THE COSTUME BISTRO AT R. DO BONJARDIM 111
*Initially the place was full, so we were redirected by a kind staff member to another Costume Bistro nearby at R. do Bonjardim 111. (not listed on google maps so i imagine both work as the same)
*the place looks and feels nice *the food took forever even when it was just my group (4 people) *food serving portions were either VERY little (octopus was a Single octopus tentacle, grilled steak was around 50grms of steak, roasted beef were super tin slices less than 15grms total) or alright size (chicken + fried rice was good serving) *the issue comes with our order requiring for a daiquiri without alcohol (we asked if it was possible and the waiter agreed) there was a confusion in communication, which ended up with the daiquiri coming with alcochol, we asked for it to be changed for water since the person cant drink alcohol and got a headache after consuming just a little. (there was no apologies from the staff by the way) *the drink later was charged regardless, the person who had the headache tried asking for it to be refunded, but again, neither apologies for the damage caused, nor a refund for the drink.
We all ended up just leaving with a bad experience in general.
The staff needs improving at the very least. everything...
Read moreWe visited Costume Bistro and experienced an impressive culinary evening. The restaurant offers a diverse menu that combines traditional flavors with modern touches.
We started with mushroom ravioli as an appetizer, which was simply perfect. The rich filling and delicate texture of the pasta created a wonderful harmony of flavors.
For the main course, the steak with foie gras was the highlight of the meal. The meat was cooked exactly to our liking, and the combination with foie gras gave it an exceptional depth of flavor. The dessert, caramel fondant, was a sweet and amazing end to the meal. The soft texture and warm flow of caramel created a delightful culinary experience.
However, the crème brûlée tart was a small disappointment. It didn't meet the high standards of the other dishes, which was surprisingly disappointing considering the overall quality of the meal.
In conclusion, Costume Bistro offers a mostly impressive culinary experience, with complex flavors and high quality. Despite the small letdown with one dessert, we highly recommend the restaurant for those looking for an excellent meal in a...
