We have enjoyed Letraria and their outdoor space since we first came here last year. We asked the first time we visited Letraria if we could bring our little 7/8 kg dog into the outdoor space and were told it was fine. We have taken him since that first time at least 2 or 3 additional times. Today we arrived to join a group event/gathering at Letraria and were turned away upon entering and told 'no dogs allowed'. When I protested explaining I had asked previously and brought him several times without issue to the outdoor space, I was told 'it was against the law' and they could be potentially fined '5k euro'.
I have taken my dog into countless number of restaurant patio/outdoor spaces in Porto and, many, indoor spaces as well. However, I totally respect and honor the decision of any restaurant establishment to choose the policy to NOT allow dogs on their premises whether it be inside OR outside. That is totally their right and prerogative. BUT, do NOT say 'it is against the law'. The law was changed in 2018 by the Portuguese Parliament.
If Letraria decided to change their policy, fine--I totally can respect that decision. However, state it as such. Post notice so all those who previously brought dogs have an opportunity to be made aware of the change 'in policy'. Do NOT say 'it...
Read moreWe had a great time here! Excellent beer, delicious food, relaxed atmosphere.
The backyard feels very secluded and is beautiful, interior is very relaxed.
The Beer was delicious, they have 6 types they are brewing themselves and around 20 taps total. A tasting palette of six is 9€.
But what made this evening truly one to remember was the food. Home made patatas bravas fritas (fried chips) with superb garlic sauce, meatballs filled with cheese and the meat/cheese plate with bread we tried, all freshly made. The only drawback here was that the amount of garlic sauce was tiny, but we received more upon asking. It takes some time, but that's only natural when the chips are just cut before being served. We had pondered having dinner somewhere later, we just scrapped the idea.
I'd come here again any time - in fact, I'll have to think about returning to Porto just for a beer and some cheese at Letraria.
Add: when we were here, the credit card reader didn't work, but I'll think they'll have the problem...
Read moreOf all the Beer Houses that have been showing up in OPORTO for the last few Months and couple of years I have to say this is my favourite. I was never a fan of beer and I startet enjoying it a lot more in this place. From someone that doesn't understand much, letting me try different ones so I could find the ones that better suit me was very vey helpful. There are quite a few that I drink and actuality like the taste of if. They change the menu from time to time so don't expect all the same flavours /brand if you return. The are also some delicious boards for you to try, a variety of cheese and prosciutto amongst others. Now let's talk about the staff, they are very loose, super friendly and can be of amazing help when you ask for the characteristics of one said beer. For last I have to mention the garden... Just go outside, sit on a granite bech,...
