We were down by the river and decided to walk up a high staircase to find Mirajazz. We hadn’t drank any port tonic this trip, and thought it was due time.
The entrance can be a little bit confusing as the name of the place is on a door that is open so you don’t immediately see it. You immediately see another businesses name. You walk up another set of stairs in the building and will get to an open space.
All the patrons were sitting out on the balcony. It is a very casual place people come for the sunset, but today was cloudy, so we just looked out over the river listening to the foreign accents, many American.
The waiter was friendly and spoke English. He brought us menus and took our order of two port tonics, and a ham and cheese plate. The platter was thin folded Ham, Walnuts, triangular wedges of hard white cheese, strips of toasted white bread, a small bowl of jam, and a small bowl of olive oil, with a dot of balsamic vinegar that was not proportionate to the oil.
Unfortunately, there was no live music while we were there that day. Just music over the speakers. This was a Thursday around 6 to 7 PM.
We paid inside, and were asked for our table number. The toilets are inside across from the cashier area with a...
Read moreExactly what we hoped to find: a quiet & friendly bar with a terrace overlooking the river. Guidebooks recommend the fancy hotel on the other riverbank for a terrace bar - but we're not on a 5-star budget. MiraJazz was spot-on for us - it has a superb view, friendly bar-man, great drinks list and an irresistible short list of nibbles/tapas (the cheese & toast soldiers in my photo were very tasty). Their schtick is jazz - so there was jazz on the stereo and the bar-man told us there was live music at the weekend. The bar wasn't busy at the moment (January 2019) I suspect because it's listed here on Google as an "Events organiser company" rather than a "Bar" - so after they've corrected that, they can expect lots more people to seek them out. Other reviewers comment on climbing the stairs to get to them - but for us, it was a short walk down the hill from where we're staying. Highly recommended - go now before The Lonely Planet find them (& it gets full of...
Read moreWe went there twice. The prices are a bit salty for what is given.
First time was ok but the second was just too chaotic for us to stay, they were not organized at all and it seems like the demand is too much for the space or amount of workers there… there were only 2-3 waiters attending tables, welcoming newcomers, being the cashiers and “organizing the line” which was not organized to a point we left early because they simply forgot about us and started to skip people in front of us in line to be seated
The overall concept is nice but it’s nothing much, the view it’s fine and the music is also just fine. The night we went to watch/see live music was simply not jazz, and the space outside is very tiny for the amount of people that got there
To be honest I don’t know why people are crazy about this place, it’s nice but again nothing...
