The food was 10/10!!!

We visited Porto for 3 nights as a family of 3. On our first day we’re looking for an evening meal without a booking.

I will be honest that the first choice restaurant was full, it was a few hundred yards up the hill but we wandered down to O Bom Tahler as I’d seen it on Google maps.

On this occasion I trusted Google reviews and the people that take time to leave google reviews.

Think about these people for a short minute that they can make or break the livelihood of a family or business.

I’m SO glad we ate here!!

I will say, my wife’s heckles were up as she’s an interior designer and on first impressions there won’t be any design awards won.

I showed her a few of the most recent reviews and she was on board to try.

Not only did she try, but the food well and truly impressed her. She had a steak that was cooked to perfection and served with style.

For my meal, I asked what the waitresses favourite was and went with that, it was the pork cheek and It did not disappoint, it melted in my mouth as she’d said.

Our 7 year old son feasted on the olives, bread and a Cod cake starter.

My wife and I washed our meals down with a nice bottle of red for a price that would make anyone’s pocket happy and we left with a fulfilling feeling that we’d supported a business that cared about what they provided to their guests.

Try it I say, try it and you may get your socks knocked off like my wife did with her steak main.

Thanks for having us and...

This restaurant is run by a father and his daughter and son. They just re-opened (4 days ago) after being closed for 5 months. You can tell right off the bat that the family cares about the restaurant!

The food was amazing, we had the fried sardines… these were so addicting and crunchy! Highly recommend. The vegetable soup is authentic and very yummy (it’s more of a creamy soup rather than broth)!

For the mains we had the port-braised pork cheeks (see picture). This was so incredibly tender, it melted in your mouth. The grilled sea brim was also delicious and would highly recommend.

We finished off with a port glazed apple… my gosh this was a perfect way to end the meal. We loved every bite and would highly recommend checking out this restaurant… definitely authentic and not a basic tourist trap! The restaurant is now in its 2nd and 3rd generation over, opening over 42 years ago! The service...

Had an amazing dinner with the family. Highly recommend the cheese / sausage plate (tabuas de queijos) — that mountain goat cheese was out of this world, and the pumpkin purée/jam was so good. We all shared the bochechas de porco (pork cheeks in red wine sauce, just single serving), a 0.6kg T-bone steak (came with these amazing fried potato slices), mixed green salads (best dressing we had throughout all of Porto), and other small starters.

The host (whom I suppose is the owner) was so warm and welcoming. The chef also came out front at the end of the evening, and was also very congenial and was very glad to share more details we asked about some of the amazing dishes we had.

The food was prepared with both skill and love. I look forward to coming...

Brilliant family run restaurant. Up there with some of the best fish I've ever tasted. Great ambience for such a relatively small business, however the food is fresh, superbly presented and absolutely delicious. Our meal consisted of fresh local bread, fried fish and olives marinated in oil for starters. Main was squid, boiled potatoes coated with olive oil and beautifully steamed vegetables .My partner had swordfish with the same sides. Washed down by a couple of ice cold beers and a mouth-watering local rose wine . amazing value at only 45 euro. I cannot recommend this fabulous little eatery enough. Awesome
