Read moreThis review is for 'Zavicaj' in Balkanska. Location is apparently very good since its packed with foreigners, however, the food is average at best. I can't believe all the positive reviews, some of those from the local visitors. Drinks are surely overpriced, not once I saw surprised guests calling on the waiter to discuss the itemized bill, realizing that the glass of OJ did cost a ton. I will stick to what I tried there. Egg meal I (we) had there was severely over salted, and dry, as in over fried. No, not "traditional. " Sataras" (Paprikas) was over baked or overcooked and not very tasty as well. I can make it better in the heartbeat. So, really not "traditional". " Cevapi" were just "OK". Much better offer up the street. Soup as well. I could probably agree with some other reviewers that those are regular " off-the-shelf" items, and not even prepared very well. I guess what bothers me here is, all those guests will leave here believing that this is really the best that Belgrade has to offer. Horrible. Not to forget, the English from the waiters. Not even funny. So there. Plenty of room for improvement in Balkanska. And kind of traditional. Poor service, I mean. Hey, it's...
Read moreI wonder if I would have been told to leave a tip if I was a lone male as opposed to a lone female.
Nice food, nice service, a bit more costly than other restaurants.
When I went to pay (I needed to go inside as was paying on card) I paid and said thank you. I was preoccupied trying to work out how much cash I had left and if it was enough to get to the airport when the gentleman said something to me.
I didn't really hear, I assumed he was saying "thank you/good evening" so I just smiled and said thank you again.
He responded with "tip". I obviously looked confused so he said "leave a tip, it's usual to leave a tip. Leave 10%".
I was flustered as replied "sorry, I usually do, I wasn't thinking".
He got the card machine as said "leave it now".
By this time I came to my senses and said "no.... don't tell me what to do" and asked where the toilet was.
He was obviously annoyed and pointed, refusing to look at me or speak.
To add ....I do always leave a tip, and I could/should have. BUT I didn't deserve to get spoken to in that manner.
To the gentleman in question....you have let...
