We wanted Mexican so we looked at the options in the city center. There's really only two. I could see that Los Mexikas had the classic dishes we wanted - Enchiladas, Tacos, Nachos, Horachata, etc. and also the most important thing to start the evening - big Margaritas! But we were nervous about some of the negative reviews here, so we decided to just go by and check it out before making a decision.
(1) Loud music? Not at all. At least, not when we were there around 8pm. I don't know if maybe this changes late at night, as I know a lot of Mexican restaurants in Europe double as "nightlife" venues, but the music was just fine during our dinner.
(2) Credit card machine broken? No. It was the first thing I asked about before even sitting down. I said, "I read that your credit card machine breaks a lot." The hostess laughed a little, and said no, actually they've had issues with their internet connection in the past, but it was working just fine that day.
So first things first. The Margarita. Just as pictured, it's a good size, and even better, it was delicious and had plenty of tequila in it.
Coming from the US and having traveled Mexico quite a bit, and eating at Mexican restaurants around the world, I'm kind of hard to please when it comes to Mexican food in Europe. It usually sucks, lol. But I was VERY happy with the food here! It's authentically Mexican, which does make sense, considering the owner here is Mexican and the staff also.
We had Enchiladas with Mole (dark chocolate spiced) sauce and they were so good. Beef Suadero Tacos on soft corn tortillas were also top notch. Nacho chips were fresh and awesome. I asked if they had anything spicy, and the server brought me some habanero sauce that hit just right.
Horachata was also on point!
Make sure you ask for their Salsa Roja. For some reason, it was not included with our Chips and 3-Salsas starter. Instead they had only pico de gallo, which was good too, guacamole, and sour cream. The Salsa Roja came with the tacos, and it was better than all the others.
Keep in mind that, even though your taste buds feel like they're in Mexico, you are still in Europe, so the salsas come in little European-sized portions, and I think they did charge a little bit for them, but not much (maybe 1 Euro?)
It was nice chatting with the hostess after the meal, as well. She is awesome, and she made our entire meal experience perfect.
Very...
Read morethe worst experience ever. When we arrived at the restaurant the waiter took our drink orders telling us he would have come back with our drinks and for taking our food orders. He disappeared. We asked for ordering food several times during the 40 min waiting time, nut we have been ignored completed by the other waitress. then the revelation: the waiter came and told is that the cook we film of orders and he couldn't take any more orders. we were very disappointed,we had to insist for having food, that was brought us in 15 minutes and it was terrible! the arrogance of the waiter, the bad quality of the food let me questioning how it is possible that that restaurant is still open.At the end we asked for talking with the menager, but he never showed up. Never felt so uncomfortable. I still feel like they stole my money....
Read moreThis restaurant had closed and changed names and owners. It's now called "Los Mexikas" we went last night and there were only a few other people dining but we have heard good things about the change so decided to try it out. The staff is super friendly and came by many times to ask how everything was in (English, slovak and spanish!) We had enchiladas, nachos, nachos agave and gringas (yum!) I think they were out of guacamole and even though everything is better with guac we survived. I also had a margarita. It was good, a little too sweet for my liking.
They really are trying to get off the ground and I wish them luck! We love Mexican food and they did well. It needs a little TLC but other than that...
