Our first meal out in Slovenia. I'd researched all of the online reviews and menus carefully to make sure we got a great meal and experience. So, after a long day of travelling and exploring, my wife and found the place in the cold pouring rain, we walked inside and the place was deserted at 6.30pm. The owner and the bar tender were waiting together watching us as we entered. No greeting or smiles. So I looked around and tentatively asked if the restaurant was open (since it was a little early and I didn't yet know Slovenian traditions). I was surprised to hear him simply and quite clearly reply, without any sign of humour, "No, we are not open". I asked when should we come back and then he responded, "Of course, we are open, take a seat anywhere." No smile, no nothing!! Now, I'm aware that I can be quite a sarcastic and miserable person sometimes so I just put the rudeness down to maybe that. Perhaps there had been a death in the family, maybe he had just been told he had 6 months left to live...maybe the largest tax bill had just arrived... So no, it turned out that one of the two chefs hadn't made it in tonight. Disaster... Obviously... So we seated ourselves, ordered drinks and food and the owner chirped up a little as we discussed Slovenian wine options. I think I may have seen the briefest of smiles. Dinner wasn't bad, but the service was shocking. Spinach was entirely missing from my beef cheeks and pure potato with horseradish (main course). The bar tender was sat with her back to us and two other tables (which had arrived after us) and was just tapping on her phone ignoring everyone. When I got up to interrupt her to complain about the missing spinach, she apologised, texted someone and behold, 5 mins later after I'd finished my meal, a separate dish of spinach and sauce arrived and was added to my bill. Needless to say, I had to resolve it but there was no apology, just an excuse from her saying, "I just work at the bar. One of the chefs didn't make it in today." My wife had gnocchi and sea bass. The gnocchi was completely tasteless. I guess that too was because a chef didn't make it in.
We skipped dessert and just left after paying for everything in full. I guess the moral of the story is, if you receive a cold, sarcastic greeting when you enter a restaurant, don't shrug it off like we did. Just leave...
Read moreI visited with my family a few days ago and we had a disappointing experience. After reading many great reviews online, we had high hopes. The food when it eventually came was very good but the whole experience was massively let down by the management of the delays and attitude of the staff. Only one of our party got a starter however we waited over 30 mins for his plate to be cleared and after grabbing a waiters attention he behaved very unprofessionally and refused to take the plate and blamed it on his colleague. Following this we waited over an hour for our main course with no explanation or apology from staff. It’s not necessarily the wait that ruined the experience, it was the lack of apology from any staff and their rudeness. We spoke to the manager at the end who was kind and offered a discount however still following this it took us having to enter the restaurant after 30 minutes of asking for the bill. My whole family have experience in hospitality and we understand mistakes happen however they either need to get new staff or teach them how to cope with these situations and make customers feel satisfied. Lovely food here, compliments to the chef, but the staff need to be trained...
Read moreOne of the worst experiences in my life, after we’re told where to sit down and given the menu we had to wait literally 20 minutes before someone came to take our order, we ordered 1 apertizer, 1 soup, and 3 main dishes. For the apertizer and the soup it took another 20 minutes mind you it was a tartar so not even cooking was required, and the food was just allright (small portions for 15 euros each). After that it took another 25 minutes to bring the main dishes (the blond cashere didn’t even bother to apologye when checking out) they gave us a free shot of liquor without thinking that one of us was underage. The main dishes had all issues: the beef cheeks with potatoes and beacon had very few of the latter two and was cold. The pasta was overcooked without puttting salt in the water plus it was cold (the blond ladye also almost burned my brothers arm in the process of blasting the waguy sheet), and the last dish had only half a tomato. The check was also wrong TWICE and the same blondye lady didn’t bother apologyzing for adding an extrea bottle of prosecco. The whole dinner was just a gambler’s fallacy at play for all the time that we had already wasted. Would...
