Since itâs on my way to work, Iâve been spending a considerable amount of time at TOZD recently. Itâs a bar in the newer part of Ljubljanaâs city center that always welcomes me warmly and takes good care of me. I might be exaggerating, but they honestly do give that impression. Itâs the type of bar where it pays off to be a regular customer (if, of course, youâre a resident of Ljubljana like me).
On an average day, Iâm there an hour before work. I sit at the bar, chat with whoeverâs working, and wait for my espresso and a ham-and-cheese toastie. The adorable orange cup of coffee is definitely a connoisseurâs delight, while the toast sandwich is perfect for anyone in the mood for a buttery and extremely comforting snack.
In general, anyone who appreciates good designâboth industrial and interiorâwill feel at ease at TOZD. While the chairs and tables outside blend naturally with the streetâs surroundings, the interior is both sophisticated and relaxed. By this, I mean that the barâs industrial ambiance is modern and work-appropriate while retaining a sleek and easygoing vibe.
During the day, I see tons of people working on their laptops or having impromptu business meetings. But come nightfall, itâs full of young people who seem like they donât have a care in the world. Often, I myself head to TOZD after work to have a few drinks with friends or colleagues. (Iâve even been on two or three dates here.)
With confidence, I can say that the space is more than suitable for any occasion. Coming from a local, TOZD should certainly be on...

Oat flat white was unfortunately (not exaggerating) the worst coffee I have ever tasted. Horrific, I mean totally undrinkableâŠ. Usually if a coffee is bad I almost always drink it anyway.. but I couldnât finish this.
The oat milk must have been spoiled as it was sour as all hell and even started separating in the glass. After mentioning that there was something seriously wrong with the coffee the rude girl just defended the coffee saying it was the coffee that was inherently sour (almost as if it were my own lack of taste and culinary understanding about coffee) and then asked if I would pay by cash or card⊠yep it was horrendous, so I just paid and left in disgust.
Any self-respecting cafe would perhaps remake the coffee and test the milk themselves rather than blaming the customer. I just wonder after seeing our nearly full cups of coffee left on the table whether she would go and test the milk herself or just keep serving up to other customersâŠ. I obviously donât...

I recommend the new cocktails, Broken Negroni made with 'Broken bones', a Slovenian craft gin and Tozd Collins, both refreshing and perfect for summer. PS: The vibe and the menu are still the same and they are still Pet friendly!
