Unfortunately Green dot wasn't as remarkable as our first visit. Our second visit was prompted due to a great first experience few months prior.

Today after arriving we placed our order which seemed to have taken over an hour to prepare. Ordering was not easy as well as all the grab and go items had sold out, leaving us with the choice of the breakfast items and toasties. The toasties only had one meat option unfortunately which really limited our choice for a good meal so I had to settle for the Chipotle chicken toastie. The sandwich sadly was quite bland and had to consume it with a mix of tomato and jalapeño sauce.

Next we had ordered the banana bread and a basque cheesecake slice. The banana bread didn't live up to expectations as my wife expected something much more glamorous but simply put was just banana bread with some caramel sauce for presentation. The cheesecake as well didn't amaze me as it was quite dry forcing me to have sips of water in between each bite. The food really disappointed today but the only good thing on our table was the fries which were as good as the first time we had it with our food.

The service of the staff was still great. They try their best and inform you of any issues they'd encounter with your order. Great communication with the customer. I really hope Green dot's quality of food isn't dropping and this was a once off experience because the first time we had it was truly mind blowing and worth the price. I have been living under a rock. Literally one of the cutest, cape tonian vibe cafes. Reality is this place is always packed and you will wait for a table, but the manager handles like a pro and will take your food orders, and when you finally get a table, the food will arrive within 10 minutes! This is a very aesthetic cafe with the glorious menu. Pricing is well worth what you get. Service can be a bit slow but that is due to high customer activity but so well worth the wait.

Matcha - oh my days. The best matcha I’ve had in joburg. So creamy and has those green tea umami notes. Love that they give you a little biscuit!

Turkish eggs - by far the best Turkish eggs I’ve had. The labneh is so creamy, garlicky pairing well with the pistachio dukkah & runny poached eggs. Sourdough is to die for & the chilli oil adds a nice kick.

Parmesan scramble - lives up to its reputation. Best scrambled eggs, not wet and squishy but creamy and melt in your mouth. Bias Italian here but Parmesan makes everything better. Their brioche is so delicate and buttery. Beautiful beautiful beautiful!!
