Important Notes: Call to make a booking and pre order signature dishes like the pepper crab and seasonal fruit juices. (explanation below)

Chef Micky's is located just outside of Melrose Arch in a boutique Restaurant, but it is not a part of Melrose Arch. The Venue itself is small and does not accommodate a huge sit in crowd. This is because Chef is all about fresh authentic Thai food served to order. If your looking for fast food this is not the place. Chef is super interactive with her guests and loves all the food on her menu equally, and rightfully so because it is all really good. This place is all about the food and company. It is also very affordable, about the same prices as the fast food Thai place we order from. Ordering for take away is also possible. I personally recommend booking and sitting in.

My highlights, considering I was on a pescatarian diet that evening: the fresh coconut juice, no need to pre order this one. but the mango, watermelon and Kiwi will need to be preordered.

The prawn dumplings, were fresh and beautifully presented. The Papaya Salad was crisp and fresh but the crystal spring rolls were my favorite. Simple to look at but so complex in flavor.

The Pepper Crab paired with the fried rice was so delicious. it was a soft shell crab that could basically just be eaten shell and all for the most part. Some say not date food, I think just perfect for a date.

Unfortunately, that about all 2 people can eat, I can't wait to go back and try out some meat dishes. We didn't preorder the crab, and we were welcomed without a booking at 17:00pm on a Tuesday. The wait for our food was about 25 mins for starters and 40 mins for mains. Both ordered at the same time. The general advice for especially weekends and after 7pm is to book though. For 3 starters, the pepper crab, rice, 2 fresh thai juices and a large bottle of still water we paid...

Went to Chef Micky on a friend's recommendation ("you have to try this celebrity thai chef when in Joburg, her name is Chef Micky") and that was a great surprise. I had the miang kham snack (spinach leaves filled with a variety of small fillings) and tom yum. Both were excellent and 🌶🌶🌶 (I asked for spicy like the Chef's like it). Impressed, Chef Micky does care about serving authentic flavours. As main, I had the black pepper crab everyone was raving about in reviews. It didn't disappoint. It got messy as you can expect, but went through it bit by bit until nothing but the very hard shell bits were left (definitely not food to have if you go there on a date 😆). All of that washed down with Singha beer. Micky told me she moved here 19 years ago, from Surin, enough time to figure where to procure essential ingredients for an authentic thai experience. The most disappointing part of it was that she did not have green papaya for som tam (she said she would have it by next week). She serves both the som tam thai (fish sauce, sweeter) and the som tam pala (isaan/lao style with fermented fish sauce, saltier). Chef Micky told me she won an award for her som tam, so I'll definitely return when that's on the menu. Chef Micky's place definitely is the place to quench your thai...

Chef Micky's Thai Dining is a hidden gem that I recently had the pleasure of discovering. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cozy and intimate atmosphere.

The prawn dumplings were the perfect start to the meal, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. And the Thai milk tea was simply delightful, sweet and creamy with a nice balance of tea flavor.

Moving on to the main course, I tried the khao Phad sapparod and the fish cakes. The pineapple fried rice was cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of sweetness from the pineapple. The fish cakes were crispy and tender, with a perfect blend of spices.

The service at Chef Micky's Thai Dining was outstanding - the staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I could tell that they were passionate about the food they were serving.

Overall, I highly recommend Chef Micky's Thai Dining to anyone looking for an exceptional Thai dining experience. The food, atmosphere, and service are all top-notch. I can't wait to come back and try more...

Hands down the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand! It took me back to the morning runs to have Tom Yum and Pad Thai at the Thai markets. We ordered the Siu Mai (what a great starter, so much flavour and just elevates the more you have it in your mouth), Tom Yum was the greatest! It was spicy, warm, flavourful partnered with plain rice. It was delicious. We also had the beef pad Thai which came with a side of toppings but we didn't even use any of that because the pad Thai alone was delicious. Then we had the mango sticky rice to end the meal. The mango wasn't as sweet and ripe but was still good nonetheless. If you want authentic Thai food. I definitely recommend this place.. It definitely took my husband and I back to Thailand. Will be back again and again to try the other things off the menu!!
