Being a frequent customer at Rocomamas Melrose Arch, I write my review based on my most recent visit to the restaurant on the 15/05 (Sunday):
We walked into the restaurant without being approached by any staff. It really made me wonder whether they were not taking any more customers for the day. I found a suitable table and looked around hoping that a waiter to tend to us soon.
The restaurant was not busy- and I have been there on days that have been much more busy-however, the food took a good 25-30 mins to arrive.
The staff seemed unenthusiastic as they went about their duties and I truly felt like they just wanted to call it a night and go home.
The food was good as it usually is but unfortunately the chips were stale.
Upon looking around in the area that I was sitting, It was the 1st time that I had ever noticed dirt on the floor. There were loose menus and chips dropped on the floor and pencils laying on the table. I also had sight of the bin which was brought out and left right next to the wash basin.
There was certainly something wrong and I had to know what it was. I have never experienced the above at the Melrose branch and I was deeply concerned that I may not be able to visit this branch without the fear of being disappointed by consistency, flavour or some other factor.
I had an idea of what it may be and so I obliged to ask the waiter that was seeing to us. "Yes, he resigned 2 weeks ago" was the response to my question of "Where is the usual manager who is always around?" It was then that all my questions were answered. Unfortunately, the previous manager at Rocomamas has now resigned and I definitely see the difference.
There was a certain standard that I observed under his management and the lack of it is immediately apparent.
I only hope that this was a once off experience and that the Melrose branch continues to deliver exceptional food...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. My wife and I decided to try RocoMamas for the first time, and it was a horrible experience from start to finish.
First, the service was an absolute disaster. When we arrived, we were seated at a table for two, but the waiter assigned to us wasn’t friendly or welcoming at all. No one explained how to use their menu system, which involves ticking off items on a paper, leaving us confused. It took over 20 minutes before anyone even came to take our order.
When we finally ordered, our starters took the looooooongest time to arrive. They only came out about five minutes before our mains, completely unacceptable nonsense. The food itself was horrible. The wings lacked flavor, and the ranch dipping sauce was watery and tasteless. The entire meal was bland and felt like no effort was put into making it. The burgers were a complete disaster, never been this disappointed about a simple burger.
To make matters worse, the service remained horrible throughout. Our waitress was so unprofessional, while taking the order at a table next to ours, she literally leaned her ass over, like her ass was literally on our table. Then she dropped cutlery and drinking straws, picked them up, and placed them right back on their table without hesitation.
If that wasn’t enough, another waiter came over to our table mid-meal to grab a bottle of hot sauce without asking, while there were clearly other tables nearby with finished meals where he could have retrieved one. The floor was filthy, adding to the already disgusting atmosphere.
This place is a disgrace. The food, service, and cleanliness were all below any reasonable standard. I feel absolutely robbed of my money, and I regret ever stepping foot into this establishment. I will never return to RocoMamas, nor will I try any of their other locations.
Save your money and your time. This was by far the worst dining experience...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible service. We (a group of 5) arrived at 20:10. After being seated we weren’t greeted by any waiting staff to so much as welcome us. However the man who seated us (who we presumed was the manager) told us we have to order quickly as the kitchen was closing soon. He didn’t bring us pens to order with, until 10 minutes after we’d asked. We quickly wrote down our orders, listening to the managers instructions to order fast. But then got told that he couldn’t process said order as he’s not our waiter. At this point it was 20:25. We asked the manager to please find our waiter for us as we haven’t met her yet. He replies “welcome to melrose, you should’ve seen me at sandton”. At 20:40 our waitress comes to take our orders and get our drinks orders. Our drinks didn’t come for another 30 minutes and our food took another 40 — with incorrect burger meat and an entirely incorrect order AND missing items.
After a further 15 minutes of waiting the incorrect order was corrected, after everyone else had finished eating. However the dipping sauce for the wings never arrived until after the wings were finished… AND THE WRONG SAUCE WAS BROUGHT!!!!
As soon as the food had arrived we requested the bill which of course contained the items that were missing. We went to the counter and asked the waitress to remove the items that didn’t come and she pointed at them sitting, ready to be served, and said “Oh, it’s there! Would you like that in a takeaway?”
On top of the unbelievably terrible service which, we were offered no compensation for, the bathrooms were disastrous, clogged up and gross. There was no toilet paper.
