The Grillhouse Melrose Arch – A Masterclass in Steakhouse Sophistication

The Grillhouse at Melrose Arch is more than just a dining destination—it’s a benchmark for upscale cuisine, refined service, and an atmosphere that effortlessly marries classic elegance with contemporary charm. From the moment you’re greeted at the door, the service is polished, intuitive, and deeply personal. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive without being intrusive, and clearly well-versed in the art of hospitality.

The culinary highlight? The 400g Rib Eye Steak—an absolute showstopper. Expertly aged, flame-grilled to precision, and bursting with bold, smoky richness, it’s a carnivore’s dream. Tender, juicy, and flawlessly seasoned, each bite reaffirms why The Grillhouse is considered one of Johannesburg’s finest.

Pair it with a glass of Chocolate Block red wine, and you’ve created a pairing that borders on iconic. This robust, velvety wine with hints of spice and dark fruit complements the steak beautifully, enhancing the flavors while elevating the entire dining experience to something truly memorable.

To round off the evening, the Malva Pudding arrives like a warm hug—rich, sticky, and indulgent with just the right touch of nostalgia. Paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it’s a sweet finale that lingers on the palate.

Pricing reflects the premium quality and location—this is elevated dining done right. You’re not just paying for a meal, but for a full-sensory journey of South African excellence in one of Johannesburg’s most stylish precincts.

The ambiance is upscale yet inviting—think dark woods, ambient lighting, and a buzz that reflects its status as a go-to for both business lunches and romantic dinners. Whether you’re a local aficionado or an international traveler, The Grillhouse delivers consistency, class, and culinary confidence in every...

There’s an indoor, terrace and pavement area prepared for dining here; I was sat on the pavement and it’s a great spot for watching the world go by while you dine on some incredible food. Initially I thought that service may be a little slower being so far away from the main restaurant but I was pleasantly proved wrong. The staff were all wonderful and made me feel welcome and valued throughout the whole stay.

The menu was provided quickly and there’s an extensive range of drink options. Bottles of wine were really well priced and there were a large number available by the glass too. My order was taken but there was no rush for the food order and I was left to take my time which was great.

As soon as I had placed my food order a delicious side of freshly baked bread was served, along with a pot of butter. The warm softness was really delicious so it was a shame it was removed straight after the starter. The starter for me was marrow bone, and the three pieces of bone were presented well along with some toast and it was piping hot. Once finished the (I assume) manager came out to greet me, ensured everything was fine and then offered to keep the main dish on hold until I was ready. I was a little apprehensive of this, thinking the steak would be overdone as a result, but he assured me everything would be fine so I took the opportunity to relax.

Once my 300g filet steak with chips was eventually served I wasn’t disappointed. It was cooked so perfectly to my medium-rare order and was so soft and juicy; I’d say it is one of the best steaks I’ve had. The chips were equally as satisfying and very unique, it’s hard to describe how they’d been cooked but they were superb.

Throughout the meal staff kept my drinks topped up and were really friendly, ensuring everything was as I needed without being overbearing. Best of all was at the end of the meal, when the bill was incredibly reasonable for what was a truly enjoyable meal. In such a prime location it’s a wonderful place and I’ll be sure to return should I be in...

Edit: I guess it's all about who your waiter is and how attentive, caring and willing to provide the best possible service. Today I went t have dinner again and it was a complete disappointment. Waiter was completely lost, forgetful and lacking attentiveness which resulted in the food cooked the wrong way. Asked for medium well it came well done and dry. Asked again to change to medium well and it came rare /under. Both Times was unpleasant texture fo me.

Ordered Greek salad and it wasn't really Greek.

Just felt like I was tortured during the whole process of having to explain more than twice and constantly had to remind them to bring me my order.

Dont know whom to blame exactly them or me who decided to go there again.

By the spend 600Rand today on a dinner I haven't even enjoyed. Fillet on the bone salad wine and water

Whenever I'm in joburg this is my place to go enjoy the most beautiful steak.

When it comes to food I'm very demanding fan I want the best possible. Today I had the fillet on the bone with creamy spinach and vegetables. I was a bit hesitant with what yo choose and the waiter helped me make my mind and recommended the fillet on the bone.

The meat was perfectly cooked to my liking; Medium well. Charcoaled on the outside and still tender juicy on the inside. Just one minor thing the vegetables came cold and I didn't like the spices they used on them. It's kind of masala ish taste which Doasnt really suit the vegetables. So may be you can do something about it. Guess veggies are not very demanding just salt and pepper and there you go.

Atmosphere is quite nice especially on weekends with all tables full of people enjoying their time.

Anyways service was good as usual. Staff are nice and helpful and even funny sometimes. I had a good time thank you...
