The Grill Room at The Oyster Box Hotel — Restaurant in KwaZulu-Natal

After reading the amazing reviews, my partner made a reservation for us to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary at The Grill Room. The hype and excitement was short lived by the pretentiousness and suffocating ostentatiousness of the servers, decor and host and the sadly the food! Poached Pears and tomato relish (thai beef salad) was a fail from just reading it on the menu - the beef was beautiful, everything else not so much. Steak Diane that had only one flavourful note.. a seafood curry with scorched pieces of fish (this however was replaced and sent in a take away container) .. this establishment is still living in its past glory says and even in the moments of reinvention are failing - perhaps they need for intervention (like a new head chef to create moderate, tasteful menu) and leave the steak Diane and tableside theatrics in...

It became an unfortunate incident that we were turned away on the 13th of October and it was my husband’s birthday. We were not aware of the preferred dress code.

We had to book for the next day. To our surprise, they have guests that are not dressed according to their standards but they were allowed in.

We’re from Johannesburg and we just went on the internet to check restaurants around the vicinity.

However, today; 14th of October we were allowed to wine and dine. We were welcomed by Ms.Babongile (very humble, friendly, and beautiful) and waitron, Mr. Jean (such a gentleman, friendly, very multi-lingual (fluent in IsiZulu, isiXhosa).

The service i have experienced tonight is absolutely pathetic. I went to the restaurant to order food as a takeout and was treated in the most unprofessional and disgusting manner possible.

I ordered food and the waitress has the audacity to speak condescendingly towards me implying that i cannot afford the food, keep in mind i have stayed at this hotel multiple times in the past.

On collection the waitress says look at your food properly so you cant complain. What disgusting behavior and service from a place that claims to be 5 star, staff need major training and reformed behavior. I have never been treated this poorly in my life. Absolutely disgusting and...
