Review of The Dogs Bollocks - A Delightful Experience with a Touch of Humor
If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy delicious food and a good laugh, The Dogs Bollocks is the spot to be. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting, and the staff truly make the experience memorable.
Service: 5/5
The star of the show has to be Amy, she is so funny and fiery. She gave us the best recommendations. She’s not just serving food; she’s delivering entertainment with a side of sarcasm and wit. Amy’s playful banter made us feel like we were part of the fun, and her friendly, down-to-earth attitude was a refreshing change from the usual stiff service at any other restaurant. You’ll leave not only with a satisfied stomach but probably a few giggles along the way.
The manager, Tony, is equally as approachable and friendly. He made a point to check in with our table, making sure we were happy, while effortlessly balancing the hustle of managing a busy restaurant. His warm demeanor made the whole place feel like a community, rather than just a typical dining spot. He even had a sat with us while we were waiting for our food and we had such a great conversation, it felt like we have reconnecting with an old friend.
Food: 5/5
Now, let’s talk about the food. The Dogs Bollocks does not disappoint. Their menu is packed with hearty, flavorful dishes that are perfect for casual dining. The portions are generous, and the quality is top-notch. We had the Mexican Chilli and Cheese and Jalapeno and Cheese burgers and it was so juicy and flavourful. I could barely finish my burger 😂. We also had a few add ons the burgers which was fair. Their Mouthwatering sides are to DIE for !! We tried the Southern Korean Asian Wings with Sriracha mayo (thanks for the recommendation Amy ). Everything is crafted with care and full of bold flavors. There’s also something about the way they present the food that just adds to the overall experience.Definitely unique.
Vibe: 5/5
The atmosphere is laid-back yet vibrant, with an energy that feels both lively and comfortable. Whether you’re here for a casual meal with friends or a quick bite after work, the vibe is perfect. The combination of humor from the staff, great food, and a welcoming environment makes it a fantastic place to relax and enjoy.
Overall Rating: 5/5 If you’re in the mood for great food, top-notch service, and a dose of humor, The Dogs Bollocks is the place to go. Thanks to Amy’s humor and Tony’s friendly approach, you’ll have an experience that’s both satisfying and fun. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy good food in a relaxed,...
Read moreYesterday a friend and I got to do lunch in a unique little eatery in Gardens, Cape Town. The name of the eatery is The Yard but was at one point called "The Dogs Bollocks" somewhat crass, but very reminiscent of its British roots.
The eatery is tucked away down a little one-way side street, but don't be fooled it is well known, and I was blown away by the number of overseas visitors who Ubered in while we were at the restaurant. The Yard itself is basic, rustic and with a vintage twist. From the bathtubs filled with plants to the "olde" style lampshades strung up everywhere it really is a relaxed environment.
This restaurant is renown for it's very large and delicious hamburgers ( the lighter version, "The Puppy's Nuts", but they also offer great chicken wings (such as "Smack My As & Call Me Sally), tacos and a huge selection of cocktails. So be warned it is best to come hungry because a large appetite is a prerequisite.
The kitchen is open concept kitchen and on arrival, you write your name on the chalkboard wall. When your food is ready your name will be shouted and you can collect it from the kitchen counter, where you can see your edible work of art being assembled.
Now if you aren't already tickled pink (or horrified and prudish), there are a few other indelicate but rather quaint touches. Need the bathroom ... erhm you might need to keep an eye out for the "Brick Shithouse". And if you are looking for a mirror, expect to find a little motivation instead ...
Back to the food. As many of you know I now follow a keto lifestyle and have managed to put my Fibromyalgia in remission (for lack of a better word). So when eating out the first thing I do is look for keto/lchf options or ways that I can adapt standard food items to suit my lifestyle. Because let's face it, not everyone caters to us "special" people. Hopefully, that will change with Autoimmune disease on the rise.
My friend chose to create his own burger with a grilled chicken patty (you can also choose from beef, or crumbed chicken patty) and nacho cheese sauce.
While I adapted my choice to a lettuce cup instead of a bun. My burger choice was the creamy blue pepper (a light and creamy blue cheese and peppadew sauce) burger with a beef patty and bacon as an "extra". I opted for a salad as a side instead of fries.
The venue truly is lovely and the food is delicious, our bill came to approx R400 for the two of us, making it affordable and good value for money. I will definitely...
Read moreI went to this place because I saw a review about how accommodating they are towards dogs and wanted to check it out. I saw that there was chicken livers on the menu and asked our waiter if we could have one in takeaway for my dog without any spices, just plain livers as I want to give it to my pup, and she said oky. The livers came and they were the normal spicy livers. I asked the waitress if we couldn’t get it without the spices like we asked, to which she responded that that is just the way that it comes. I told her that she should’ve just told us that it can’t be prepared plain, as I wouldn’t have ordered it then, to which she responded “well it’s not intended for dogs anyways” She then very loudly proceeded to complain about the ordeal to her colleagues to which another lady came over and told me that if I wanted it plain, I should’ve just said so. I just told her that I did ask our waitress for plain livers, but she had agreed to it and then failed to deliver.
Overall, my experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. While I appreciate that they claim to be dog-friendly, the reality is that they were not accommodating at all. The fact that they couldn't even prepare a simple dish of chicken livers without spices for my dog speaks volumes about their lack of attention to detail and customer service.
Furthermore, the behavior of the waitstaff was unprofessional and borderline rude. Rather than apologizing for the mistake and trying to make it right, they chose to argue with me and make excuses. The fact that one of them even went so far as to make disparaging comments about my dog was completely unacceptable.
In terms of the food itself, the we ordered Pizza which was absolutely stunning!
However, because of the terrible service (which goes far beyond their gimmick), I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. Save your money and go...
