I came here at my wife's urging. She saw the restaurant featured on a Korean TV show. Moreover this place is a Michelin restaurant. Well after a certaindosage of expectations, I was highly disappointed. First the staff was hardly welcoming despite the big sign in the establishment that read "customer is king". Second the food was hardly anything I'd write home about. The cold noodle soup was very bland and the noodle was super chewy. Apparently that's the way they make them. So I can't fault them for the food but it isn't something I'd come back to try again. The galbi Tang (rib soup) was pretty decent to good and the seafood pancake was acceptable. Hence altogether I was split on 2 or 3 stars. I will give them the benefit of doubt and give 3 stars. This is only because my kids enjoyed their galbi tang and the pancakes were serviceable.
I do seriously doubt coming back here again when in Seoul. There are so many other better serviced places with better food and better prices (yes this place was good 20 to 30% more expensive than other places with...

Perhaps our expectations were too high. The food was really terrible, with really strong and objectionable aroma from the main dish -- a stew of vegetables and organic beef raised singularly in Korea (sort of like Japanese Wagyu beef).
The root cause may be stale beef or double cooking as the stew comes with already cooked beef plus vegetables, to which some broth is added and boiled again.
This was the first time that I (and my guest) felt such a repulsive aroma from beef, very much like such smell from stale or twice cooked pork and chichen.
The Pyung-Yang style cold noodle was okay. But, per my guest, it's not really the right way of doing the Pyung-Yang style cold noodle...
Very disappointed with the place. I am now more skeptical about the Michelin...
Read moreNampo Myeonok is a Pyongyang Naengmyeon restaurant with a tradition of over 50 years that has been selected for the Michelin Guide for 8 consecutive years from 2017 to 2024. It is located a 2-minute walk from Exit 1 of Euljiro 1-ga Station.
Nampo Myeonok‘s Pyongyang Naengmyeon is a clear broth with noodles, topped with pears, meat, and eggs. The harmony of the mild broth with a meaty flavor and the chewy noodles is excellent. However, since the taste is definitely divisive, it may be a very tasteless dish for Pyongyang Naengmyeon beginners, so be careful. It may be a really tasteless dish for foreigners in particular.
Hanwoo Bulgogi is made with Hanwoo beef and mushrooms as the main ingredients, and the seasoning itself is not strong or sweet, and the deep flavor of the Hanwoo itself is present, and the Hanwoo Bulgogi broth is especially delicious. It is also delicious when you eat rice...
