옥동식 Okdongsik PORK GOMTANG (REGULAR) 11000 won KIMCHI DUMPLING (4 PCS) 7000 won

Featured in the Michelin Guide since 2018, Okdongsik offers a minimalist menu with just two items: pork soup with rice and kimchi dumplings. Simple, yet beautifully executed.

The pork gomtang broth was clean, delicate, and deeply satisfying. I could have easily finished another bowl. Generous portions of thinly sliced pork were tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with their house-made pepper paste.

The kimchi dumplings were massive, packed to the brim with bold, spicy-sour filling. A hearty, comforting meal that’s absolutely worth seeking out.

The restaurant has only 10 seats, so I recommend joining the virtual queue on Catchtable. That way, you can explore the area while waiting...

In Seoul’s vibrant culinary scene, Okdongsik has achieved something remarkable by elevating a humble classic, pork gomtang, into a refined art form. Awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, this small restaurant dedicates itself to a single, perfected dish. A shimmering, crystal-clear broth that defies the typical image of a rich pork soup. This clean, consommé-like liquid is the result of slow-simmering high-quality pork meat, not bones, creating a pure, delicate flavor.

Arranged beautifully over a bed of rice are paper-thin slices of tender pork, which are gently cooked to perfection when the hot broth is poured over them. This is not just a soup; it’s a testament to precision and the beauty...

Get here early, there's a line. But the wait is worth it. This place is small and they serve one thing and one thing only. But it's so damn good. I don't know the Korean name but it's pork soup with rice noodles. The broth was extremely clear and flavorful. And that slice pork is out of this world in terms of texture and flavor. There's definitely a minimalist approach to this dish that simply blows your mind. I find myself occasionally browsing and looking at the two pictures I took of the golden bowl of perfect pork noodle soup. I can't help but salavate a little every single time. This is definitely one of those places that I see myself going out of my way to have...

Went there for lunch around 2pm. Queue number can be obtained from the machine. If you don't have a local Korean number, ask for assistance and the staff will sort it out for you. Seating is counter style so there is limited space. The operations has been streamlined such that it is very efficient. Limited menu meant that they do well for stuff they have. They have an English menu (just turn the tissue box around). I had the gomtang and kimchi mandu. The gomtang hit the spot very well. Very clean flavours. Kimchi is free refill and the free drink (can't remember what tea it was) is refillable. Food and service was good and I would recommend for any who wants to try this place.
