EDIT. GOOGLE AT ITS BEST. The following review is actually for the Blue Marlin Cafe, not far from Slow Boat. ...
"happy, friendly staff serving a mix of local, english and other dishes. a great place to watch the sunset during the evening as well as grab a snack during the day. my only reservation would be that there were cockroaches in one of our glasses due to the area being so crowded with food outlets. however, that didnt stop us returning several times. we love the place and the staff"
as for the Slow Boat... Probably The best chinese restaurant you will find anywhere. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very good at their jobs. The food.. i'd say it's out of this world, but its definitely not alien in any way. We've eaten at the Slow Boat a couple of time for the simple reason it IS highly recommended, because it is superb. Portion sizes tend to be slightly larger than you might be used to back home when dining inside a chinese restaurant, and in the case of the salt n peper chicken breast its probably double the usual portion. Its a busy place situated above the harbour with tables both inside and out. At certain times you may well have to wait. Do so. Your stomache will thank you.
I was horrified to discover that google has put the wrong review on what is our favourite chinese restaurant. I have never seen cockroaches near the Slow Boat and hope to ** no one was put off from eating there because google, working to there usual high standards and abilities put the wrong review on the wrong establishment.
... i better go see which of my reviews has been stitch onto the Blue Marlin.....
Read moreWhat to say, we are real sushi lovers so we decided to go to this restaurant. We were welcomed by a nice woman who let us pick a table and the place looked really nice. Unfortunately a young waiter was serving our table. This young waiter was not interested in customers and was busy on his phone and also leaving the restaurant to the street to have a chat with the owner of a souvenir store on the other side of the street. We ordered tempura rolls with salmon and with shrimps. And the waiter recommended the shrimp crackers and we accepted. When the sushi arrived it looked very promising it was presented in a wooden boat and looked delicious. The first alarm bells went off when we did not get any chopsticks. When we asked for it he looked in a bored way and went to get it. Also the shrimp crackers were not served so we had to ask for it… We tasted the sushi but it was a kind of warm and we found the sushi was fried. We are no experts but we had never eaten this in the Netherlands like this. Anyway we are open for everything and started eating. The taste was not great it was lacking of good flavors. Normally We can easily managed to eat this amount of food but it tasted strange and the pieces were so big that we could not eat it in a decent way. Also the salmon was smelling and was not fresh. We ended up leaving several pieces on ‘the boat’. Not a great success. The almost empty restaurant and lazy waiter did not help also. We will not visit this...
Read moreBeen coming to the slow boat for nearly 20 years when we have our family on Tenerife. It's still the same as way back in the day! The food is the best Chinese style you will get anywhere including home. You get a free bottle of wine with your meal! It is right next to Porto colon harbour and beach so when your eating you get an amazing view from the balcony. We always try and get there between 6:00 - 6:30 as it gets real busy after that. We always get one of the banquettes for 2-3 people and you get that much food we never eat it all!! Its so tasty you don't want to leave it and try your best but never get through. When you pay your bill they staff bring out hot towels and a shot for the adults which is a nice touch. For a family of 4 you will be looking around €50 - €60 for a banquet then your drinks on top. It is worth every penny as it will be the best meal you have...
