This place appears to be a front for organized crime. You will not be safe here.
I walked in a minute ago to an almost empty bar. The waiter asked me if I speak English or Spanish, and I replied (in Spanish) that either is ok. He rudely spoke to me in English, pointed to my sandals and said “we have a dress code in this place”. I pointed to a man at the bar—one of only two customers here—who was also wearing flip flops. He said “but those are leather”. (My sandals also are leather, and I even bought them in Spain. I also am wearing a nice “resort casual” button-down shirt appropriate for the weather and nice shorts).
So I just left. Obviously the bar was reserved for just these two customers for some entirely legitimate business reason, and doesn’t need more customers. I don’t need to know more. There are hundreds of places for a cocktail in the area.
I can’t recommend enough that for your safety you stay away. Especially if you are American. ¡Peligro! ++++ Your response doesn’t address the issue but continues to insult me. I was NOT wearing plastic flip flops and your staff was rude to me. Perhaps you could explain why the policy applies to some but not all customers. There will not be a next time. But it was so good of you to apologize…oh, but you didn’t. I don’t want to be a “Karen”. But I had just left a very nice restaurant nearby with the same attire and had been welcomed there. I have not been to the beach. I have been touring the city all day spending good money at other places. I have been polite to everyone in this city and everyone else has been nice to me. So to be thrown out of a tiny dank place like yours is a little odd. Obviously your staff just doesn’t like the way I look. You are welcome not to like me. And I will publish your attitude for...

⏳ The most ancient cocktail bar in Barcelona, founded at 1933 by Miguel Boadas, descendant of Catalans and cousin of the owner of the iconic bar “Floridita” in Cuba (world famous thanks to Ernest Hemingway) where ge discovered his passion for cocktails. Xavier Cugat, Joan Miro, Federico García Lorca, Dali, Picasso, Pedro Almodovar and, off course, Hemingway are some of the personalities who have tasted their classic cocktails. The manager, Jerónimo Vaquero, has been 49 years behind the Boadas bar and his right hand man is currently Adal Marquez, one of the most prestigious Spanish bartenders. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🔝The Boadas signature is the use of the throwing technique to break the liquid, oxygenating it, to achieve a softer flavor in the drink even if it is more loaded with alcohol; also causing a visual spectacle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📍placed at C/ dels Tallers 1, 200m away from Catalunya Square ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💶 10€ on average - Nice price if we considerate the quality, the experience years and, why not, the fact that we are sharing location with great personalities from our past ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🍸 cocktails are at the height of a place with its history, which means, SPECTACULAR This time the #benightlovers tried: Alexander cocktail Manhattan cocktail Vesper Martini The “Alexander” is perfect for dessert with its creamy consistency and balance; as appetizer, the “Manhattan” and the “Vesper Martini” are the best options. They also prepared for us an “Expresso Martini”, which is not in the menu, but it was delicious. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏡 The atmosphere is warm and the staff pleasant and...
Read moreNew hands took over this mythical bar last July. Changes take time to be adjusted though… This time we had a Daiquiri and a Moscow Mule -not served in copper cup- both good but not great and presented on a beer mat instead of a cocktail napkin. Not nibbles offered with the drinks. Not a good experience this time.
P.S. According to the answer of the property to my review above I have just corrected the date the bar was taken over by a different team. Also they are suggesting me to go to any other bar in ramblas to have my cocktail served on a cocktail napkin rather than on a beermat. I've been into cocktail craftsmanship since I remember and I have visited some of the best cocktail bars in the world so I do have a clear idea of how a cocktail should be served. I am sure that the team at Boadas is a great team and for that reason opinions from customers should be taken into account in order to improve day by day and not ending like one of those places in Ramblas that they are suggesting...
