Cafe Kafka — Restaurant in Barcelona

We went for a stroll around wonderful Parc de la Ciutadella, a beautiful spot to walk around on a sunny day. After our time spent well at the park we started walking back towards the Gothic quarter, and there we Cafe Kafka. The place is quite cool, very well designed in the classic Brasserie style with a few cool touches. The location is also great, and there is a nice terrace. My partner, who isn’t vegan, enjoyed her food. However, my wife needed to breastfeeding our baby and the guy in charge insisted she do this in the restroom. We had to order the bill and leave at this stage, so I would not recommend such a place. There was a 15% supplement for sitting at the terrace, we only found this out when we got the bill. Tourist trap, anyone? We had: Fried artichoke: not good, fried beyond recognition (you couldn’t tell those were artichokes in there) Quinoa salad: although aesthetic, it was quite tasteless

We were really excited to try Café Kafka after checking their website the menu online looked amazing, with dishes that seemed close to "Michelin-star quality". We even made a reservation for 20:30, a perfect time for dinner in Spain. When we arrived, though, we were surprised to see the place almost empty for a friday night in Barcelona. Just a few people were sitting outside, and inside we were practically the first ones. That already felt unusual.🥺 Then came the biggest disappointment: the menu we were given had nothing to do with what was advertised online. Decidimos seguir una de las miles recomendaciones que existen en las RRSS de Instagramers reconvertidos a críticos culinarios de alta alcurnia, y bién, la verdad es que la decisión fue acertada.

Reservamos mesa. Queríamos ir el sábado por la noche, y tratándose de un Restaurante situado en el Born, lo normal seria encontrarlo “a petar”. Pues bién, para nuestra sorpresa lo encontramos casi vacío, a penas 3 mesas ocupadas de las muchas que dispone el local. Primera impresión? Mala. No nos engañemos. Un local semi desértico no augura nada bueno. Pero en fin, habíamos venido “a jugar” y con alguna duda nos sentamos.

Principal ventaja de cenar en un sitio vacío? Que lo normal es que te atiendan bastante rápido (y si tienes suerte, hasta bién). Pues no se si sería por eso, pero primer punto positivo de la velada. Durante toda la noche nos atendió una camarera que estuvo pendiente de nosotros en todo momento (pero sin agobiar). Con un trato exquisito. Poco mas que añadir. Lástima que cuando te atienden bién sea motivo de sorpresa. No debería ser así. Sobre la comida decidimos probar el menú degustación, que con un precio de 35€/persona y 7 platos + postre, incluida una copa de cava y una copa de vino/cerveza/refresco, nos pareció más que correcto.

El resultado? Sorprendentemente bueno. Como en todo menú degustación hubieron platos que destacaron (meloso de ternera o el panipuri) y otros no (el wanton de pato) pero en general la calidad del producto fue de 8 sobre 10. Si encima el tiramisú de pistacho (hasta en la sopa te meten pistachos hoy en dia) está rico (que lo estaba y mucho), que mas se puede pedir por 35€? Ya os lo avanzo…NA-DA!

En resumen, que si tienes la suerte de no encontrarte con mucha gente, el menú degustación bién vale las 2 horas de parquing que pagamos religiosamente. Y pese a que no repetiría (una vez probado preferiría probar otras opciones) si que es muy recomendable para ir a cenar al...
