Spain is famous for its PATATAS, which are made here in what feels like every possible way. The most common form is small fried cubes or classic fries, just as we all know them. I don’t know how they do it, but the potatoes here are truly delicious — almost on the same level as authentic Belgian fries. There’s just something extra in them beyond potatoes and oil.

One of the places in Barcelona that delivers this experience is Las Fritas, with two locations in the city. I regularly visited the one in the El Born area. It’s a small, narrow spot with just a few seats. And basically… it’s “just” about potatoes. But what potatoes! They offer a wide selection of toppings, sauces, and different combinations — even special menus that include a topping, a sauce, and a drink.

Even though it’s “only” patatas, I honestly think that with the right combo, it can be a full-on lunch. There’s a saying that a person could survive on potatoes alone — and if they were from Las Fritas, I totally would.

Although the place is located on a busy street, once you step inside, you find a little peaceful spot to eat and relax. The place is a bit darker and slightly cooler thanks to the air conditioning — but that’s quite typical for spots in the historic part of the city, and I actually find it cozy.

This spot is definitely worth a visit if you’re a fan of this kind of food or if you want to try a fun and unique variation. I’ve been there, I went back… and I will...

i visited this place the first time i was in barcelona in 2016 and it was so good that i came back for seconds in 2024. however, i was very disappointed to be served by an an utterly rude person. first off, when we were placing our order, the guy was genuinely ignoring us and not responding at all. eventually we were able to place the order which we asked to take away. after we paid, we went inside to sit for a bit till the order was ready. as soon as we were entering, the server started frantically pointing outside telling us to basically stand there for takeaway orders. i was very confused as to why he had an issue with us sitting inside. regardless, i just told him we were going to sit for a bit till we got our order and sat. we wait like 10 minutes and he brings our fries in the dine-in display?? nevertheless we sat and enjoyed the fries even though our only request was to have it for takeout. if i were to have these fries again, i’d go to the...

Although my friends and I enjoy their other location in Barceloneta for the quality food and friendly service when we tried this location 2 times, in the past weeks, the guy working at this location (the guy with the dark long hair in a bun) had quite an aggressive attitude. The first time we just left and the second time my friend just held his breath and waited for the food.

Personally, I believe, As someone who has worked in customer service for a combined 15 years if you cannot leave your bad mood at the door when you arrive to work you should not be working in that industry to begin with.

On the positive side the food is of the same standard as the Barceloneta...

A cool spot away from crowded street, light music, simple place and menu but perfect cold beer on a hot day, and snack or meal of fries, eggs, and complementing topings. I don't have to wonder or ask if the kitchen is clean, if the fries are real or frozen, it s all right in front of me as I order. The cook and server were extra nice, and the beer was cold yumm....would you like fresh fries with that :)) ….many times since then, hits the spot anytime any season

Ok an other place in Barcelona that is a must visit. You should definitely try the amazing fries as they have different options of toppings and the outcome is always amazing. It was also quite quick to serve and the people there were very friendly and nice. Been more than once as I would like to try their different options! I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for something fairly quick but with a local feeling!!
