Way too expensive for what you get. I enjoy eating in restaurants tremendously and try to go often. It may be a simple place or a more upscale place like this. With two people we paid 250 Euro and this is my experience:
A small bowl of pumpkin soup with a few pieces of shrimp and some crunchy wafer. Good : very fresh shrimp, too bad it was only a few pieces. Not so good : the soup is bland and nothing special.
Some artichokes on a small bed of a cream of matured sheep's cheese, some iberian ham and pork belly fat. The Artichokes were lacking in flavor, the ham had little taste and I did not even notice the pork belly. The cheese was there and had great taste, but for me the combination did not work at all.
A chunk of Sobrasada on a piece of bread with some honey. Ok for what it is. My wife's piece was burnt to a crisp. I liked mine, but I this is the sort of thing I'd expect in a bar as a snack.
Next up : fried eggs with a crispy potato cushion and some black truffles. Potentially a winner. Not sure how the potato was prepared but it was again lacking in taste. When the lid was taken of the egg-shaped ceramic vessel it was presented in I cought a tiny whiff of truffle aroma that immediately disappeared. The egg was OK, but did not impress me too much.
Open langoustine: Well cooked, tasted fine. Best dish so far.
Baked Foie with poached onions. Quite good. The onion needed a little more cooking for my taste but the foie at least was excellent.
'Chuleton' , grilled beef. Quite unexciting. A bit dry and nothing special. The mashed potato was very good and so was the grilled head of lettuce. That actually had some taste and a suprising texture.
For desert I had some steam-cooked cheesecake with a tomato jam. The tomato jam was just sweet and had very little flavour. Also the cheesecake was fine but was just that. Unexciting.
We had some wine that I think was way overpriced as it was a very very simple young rioja. Nothing wrong with a simple young rioja, but not for 32 euros.
In summary : quite disappointing and unexciting experience. The service was perfect and attentive. The bread and olive oil were also top notch.
At this price point I want to walk away with a memorable experience, that you discuss on the way home how good it was, and have a fond memory of. Now I have only the impression that I paid way too much for a...
Read moreHad a very odd experience at this restaurant. Upon arrival, the hostess was on the phone and gestured for us to wait, so we did. Although she was friendly, her conduct wasn’t the most professional (she was still changing shoes shortly after we arrived). It was a good 10 minutes before we were finally seated. The lack of professionalism carried over to our servers, one of whom spoke good English but ignored us half the time. The other spoke no English, and as a result, didn’t communicate with us in any way whatsoever. Her service skills were also pretty cringe-worthy (e.g. reaching both arms awkwardly to grab a plate etc). The decor in the restaurant is sleek, with an open-concept kitchen which is always fun to watch. There’s also a giant seafood display that you walk past on your way into the restaurant. Depending on the customer, it can be interpreted as either gaudy, or impressive. Odd service aside, the food itself was actually incredibly good. The tuna belly was DELICIOUS, as was the chorizo with raw honey on the side. We LOVED the razor clams, and the desserts were OUTSTANDING (cherries with star anise, and grilled pineapple with yogurt sorbet and coconut). Both desserts were recommended to us by a third server, who only appeared at our table for this final course. She was the only one the whole evening who was friendly, and good at her job! Food was definitely the saving grace for this restaurant, but we probably...
Read moreVery much wanted to love this place. We were trying to have one very nice meal during our trip to Barcelona and Pur fell flat. Both deserts were great, but the steak was under cooked for both of us and the wine service was awful. The other tasting menu items we tried were very mid. The place was also empty, even though it was a Tuesday night — it’s kind of rude when they are cleaning the place up to go home ( I.e. packing the display fish away for the night, scrubbing down the countertops) before your meal is over. At the beginning of our meal, we asked about wine pairings and they said it would be €100 per person (the tasting menu we had was €129 for the food itself) — BUT they refused to provide any detail about what wines would come with the pairing and were openly annoyed at the question. When we ordered a bottle of champagne, they didn’t pour a taste to ensure it was a good bottle. I’ve never been to ANY restaurant that’s failed to do this, let alone a very upscale one on the Michelin guide. There were some highlights — again, both desserts were excellent. Most of the servers (not all) were very nice, professional, and attentive. Other than that, this place is a pass. ...
