We read very good reviews and decided to sit at this restaurant. Unfortunately we were very disappointed by the food. Since other people liked it so much I must assume that it was far from the tastes we like, or maybe there was a new or a substitute Chef in the Kitchen or major changes were made on the menu. I think it was probably the first. The waitress was very kind and helpful and did her best to please us. It was very hot at midday, although there are umbrellas for the sun. Thus the three stars for the atmosphere. Unfortunately there was no shade from trees or the buildings at that hour. The best visiting hours for that area in the summer are definitely later when it is cooler. The waitress did her best though, re-orienting and moving around the umbrella. She even brought us a second table so that we would be more comfortable! My daughter and I had the chicken. The portion was quite small and it was served without anything on the side, like rice, potatoes, or salad. It has some pieces of green peppers which were bitter and weird in taste. We didn't like them so we didn't eat them, although we both love green peppers. I ate about half of my chicken and didn't want to finish it since I didn't like it. My daughter hardly ate a couple of pieces. The price of the dish was rather expensive for the portion offered and the end result. Three of us tasted it and found it on the low end of salt and spices, which made it plain and boring without much of a taste. I tried my husband's risotto, which was mid-range ok, but it was quite salty-you could feel the grains of salt, which made a crunchy noise when you chewed, and it was a bit low on the spices. The worst dish was the pork ribs. The meet was very hard and full of fat and tiny bones , which made it impossible to chew. It was a tapas dish but my son got it as a main dish. He was unable to eat it. He kept spitting out small pieces of bones and fat and he loves ribs. There was barely any BBQ sauce on the ribs. None of us liked it. The waitress asked if we did not like the food because we had so many leftovers. She was very empathetic and felt bad when we told her we didn't ike it, especially the ribs, She was very polite and didn't charge us for the ribs, which was extremely nice of her, although she really didn't have to do it. The tapas were decent but nothing special. Overall, the waitress was very nice and tried to please us but the food was not to our taste or expectations. It was expensive for the quantity and the end result. We had to go elsewhere to eat a couple of hours later, since our teenage kids had hardly eaten anything, even though they are not picky eaters and like a variety of different foods and international cuisines.

In a side street between las ramblas y la Avenida de portal Del Ángel is this gem of a restaurant in central Barcelona. There is nice interior seating but the outside tables in the street are the way to go. The service is excellent, the waitress recommended an excellent wine and helped out with our order. Tonight we stick to tapas and really everything we ordered was top notch. We ordered the gambas (excellent), the boquerones (very fresh), the mushrooms in garlic sauce (possibly the best dish ), a dish of roasted eggplant, roasted peppers. We also had the piquillo peppers. All were amazing and large portion. We also tired the torta de queso and loved it. When you ask for the bill you get what they call lagniappe in Louisiana (a little present) in this case it’s an after dinner drink, I had limóncelo and the wife had grappa. Delicious. So great food , top notch service in a great ambiance. Can’t ask for more.

La Taverneta offers up delicious, fresh dinners based on local, farm-fresh ingredients to the delight of its patrons. I have the delight of living close by this local restaurant, which, although it serves many tourists, has mostly happy locals who regularly frequent its establishment. I have enjoyed their Pato Confitado as a "take away" dish, and their fresh salmon dish served on site with an array of delectible vegetables. I am sure to return many times given its proximity to my home (a block away). I love a restaurant which embraces fresh vegetables and offers them as a valued equal partner to the main course. This is actually quite rare in Barcelona, where the offerings tend to be more meat or fish/rice based, without even a sideglance to vegetables.

Yesterday, we had a really fun night there, food was good and the staff was nice. At first we sat inside and for the last round of drinks we went outside. However, when the bill arrived I was a bit shocked that we had to pay the terrace tax for everything we had including all food and drinks we had inside. I would suggest to warn your guests next time especially since we consumed at least 80% inside. Or maybe just print two different bills. Also, it seemed a bit weird that the waitress said that if we come more often we do not need to pay the tax which is basically saying that there would have been an option to not add the tax for the food we had inside. We did get some free shots at the end which compensated this a bit. In the end, we paid everything, because it is really a nice place next to my home and we did have a great night-also thanks to the staff. So maybe hasta pronto, but then...
