El Racó Girona. Pizzeria Mediterrània — Restaurant in Girona

The salad and pizza were delicious and well worth the money. Desserts were not great and took a long time to arrive. But the service was really awful--that's the main reason this is a 2-star review.

My friend and I are American tourists with bad Spanish, but we have tried our best to communicate at every cafe and restaurant we have eaten at in Spain and Catalonia. This was our WORST service experience so far. The waitresses actively avoided us, which made it extremely difficult to make basic requests like asking for a pizza cutter, a second drink, or even the check. Getting their attention was very difficult. Even when we did get their attention, it was like they couldn't leave our table fast enough. Meanwhile, they were frequently checking up on the tables next to us full of locals.

I am sorry we don't speak Catalan, but this is a town with a lot of tourism. Please understand it is not that we expect your staff to speak any English! We only wanted the staff to be friendly and show us the basic respect of customers, recognizing that we are beginners at speaking Spanish.

Honestly, if you're a local, you'll probably have a great time at this place. If you're a foreigner, I recommend eating...

Absolutely worst food experience. We were mistreated only because we don't speak Spanish :( the waitress was offended only because we asked for an English menu. From then on she kept rolling hers eyes at everything! Absolutely diagusting. She was hurt we didn't select our drinks after a minute - firstly there are no drinks in the menu, and secondly we were occupied by checking our English menu online. But it was too much for her to wait a minute. As to the food, pasta ok, pizza just ok but the burger I got was completely raw! Not even close to medium rare. Firstly, she didn't even asked how it should be done. By default, ok let it be medium. It was 100% raw, except for 1mm from the edge. It might have been on the grill for a 5 seconds. And the quality of meat was way below average. No recommended. THE WORST WAITTRESS EVER. Standing by our table she lookep at in the sky with irritation and said in Spanish that we are in Spain and so we should speak Spanish. I have never been so...

Food was good, service not so much. They don’t check up on you and you really need to get the attention of the staff in order to order something. Also hygiene is very, very bad. They don’t clean up right after taking the bill. If there is bread on the table they leave it and thus the pigeons take it to the ground or stay on the table to fight over it. They don’t clean the table after taking the food of the table after people leaving, in combination with the pigeons this is really disgusting. I hope the staff does realise that pigeons are basically flying rats. There were like 8 of them during the whole duration that we were there. This wasn’t the situation with the other restaurants. Since pigeons are animals of habit, this tells me that this is the case more often than not for this restaurant. Hopefully the staff can improve in the basics or service...
