The food at Casa Lucas is delicious. We especially enjoyed the croquetas and the Rabo de Toro.
But what made Casa Lucas really stand out to us was the incredible service. You can get great food at many restaurants along Cava Baja, and we did, but the wait staff at Casa Lucas gave us the most attentive, kind and efficient service we experienced all week, by far. As soon as we finished one dish, it was whisked away and the next one arrived. They cleared empty glasses so quickly and quietly that my husband was surprised when he looked down and saw his empty beer glass was already off the table. When we arrived, as I took off my coat, a smiling staff member offered to take it and hang it up for me on the hook behind my husband's side of the table.
I recommend going to Casa Lucas for the food, of course, but it was the people working there who made it the best dining experience of our entire trip. I only wish we could have visited...
Read moreThis is a vibey wee gem that is clearly loved by locals as much as it finds its way on to “recommended” lists for tourists. It’s a small place, and its popularity means that you might have to wait for a table, but it’ll be worth it. All the menu boards are in Spanish, but there’s a QR code to scan for the English version of the menu. The tapas sizes are a bit bigger than average; it’s traditional Madrid fare done with care and it’s absolutely delicious. The wine options are excellent and equally delicious. This is also a great place to indulge in some vermouth. Zaddy Lucas, as I decided to call the guy behind the bar who I assumed was the owner / manager, looked after us with a firm but gentle hand. No English was exchanged, but we understood, and he took care of us. I was left feeling like the last thing I’d ever want to do was disappoint Zaddy Lucas 😂 This was one of our favourite Madrid tapas experiences, so...
Read moreCasa Lucas offers a unique and delicious twist on traditional Spanish cuisine. A special shout out to John, our amazing server, who provided excellent recommendations and service. I highly recommend the Rabo de Toro, a creative take on braised oxtail with plums and pistachios, served on a bed of mashed potatoes. The plums added a subtle sweetness that complemented the richness of the meat. The Arroz Cremosa, cooked in a flavorful mushroom broth and topped with foie gras and a poached egg, was another highlight. The earthy mushroom broth balanced perfectly with the foie gras. Even the simple tomato salad with goat cheese provided a nice refreshing touch to our meal. Casa Lucas elevates Spanish cuisine without any pretension, and they are incredibly welcoming to tourists. I only regret finding it on my last day, as I would have loved to try more of the menu. I will...
