El Gordo de Velázquez — Restaurant in Madrid

A well-known staple of Velázquez street, perhaps for the iconic logo of a fat man in a top hat, El Gordo de Velázquez serves a limited selection of Spanish classics with a modern twist - promising and delivering a fantastic food experience.

Our table feasted upon the tortilla de trufa (a Spanish omelet topped with a lovely truffle sauce), Patatas Bravas El Gordo style, the mushroom risotto with foie gras, and the deliciously well seasoned steak entrecote.

For desserts we had the cheesecake with lotus biscoff base, and the Peking style Torillja both of which where amazing and scrumptious!

We visited the restaurant on a Friday evening and had reserved in advance, which is always recommended. The evening was accompanied by an on-site DJ who brought a relaxing flair with the help of good music. The restaurant's menu includes a fine selection of internationally inspired dishes, which tend to be in the higher and more expensive price range. We were won over in the evening by the Tuna Tartar,„ Potato omelette with truffle dressing“ and „Crispy duck with orange and ginger sauce,…“. 4years ago me and my best friends accidentally had lunch in this place after we finished shopping. And that time the menu still be only in Spanish so staffs are very kind to translate to us one by one. And each plates were great enough to make me come back again in this year!!

Today i went back to this restaraunt. Everything look be the same except people still crowed and having meal around 4pm.

Staffs were very kind to me. Always asking me do I need any help and recommened me a dish which i couldnt take beef.

Also the last the waitress explain to me a desert one by one and I decided to believe in her recommended.
