Rudest service experience in Madrid!!!! I visited with a friend and upon entering I went to the bar and asked what kind of white wine they had, the bartender said only one. I asked what type and he didnt answer he threw a glass on the bar top and poured a bit in the glass and slammed down the bottle. I was already quite confused with how rude he was but I tasted it and it was vile so I asked for a vermut. He preceded to insist that I needed to order 2 vermuts. I was confused I only wanted one. He said in a very gruff manner that my friend and I needed to both buy drinks. I said I would like a vermut and she will come back and order what she wants. At this point all verbal conversation with me ceases on his end. He grumbles to the other bartender, doesnt acknowledge my request and goes to the back of the bar. I'm now totally dumbfounded, wondering what the hell just happened. I'm standing there really just in shock. He returns, throws a glass on the counter, grabbed the most expensive vermut off the shelf and grudgingly pours, barely a serving and in a very violent way. I don't know how the vermut managed to make it into the glass with the violent manner that he poured. He still hasn't said anything, he just gives me the machine to pay. I look its 7euros. To be honest I should have left, I have never been treated like this anywhere in Madrid. They should tell you at the door that while entrance is free its required that you buy a drink. I have no problem doing this, even when the prices are double average prices because I understand they have a live band. I can't even give an honest review of the band, I was unable to enjoy the show and I left...
Read moreLong read. But American / Asian/ non Spanish tourist BEWARE.
Ok this place is filthy. Like sticky table non cleaning filthy. Stools made of skin/ fur are very low - and tiny and have odd spots and stuff on them. Very dirty. Bathrooms are very “public” with salon swing doors. Zero privacy. But we were told it’s great music so it was all good. Service was quick in the low height basement.
However - VERY VERY inhospitable place because of female singer. She targeted one of our American friends (who by the way was asked to move from a regular stool to one of the tiny 1 foot tall stools- he has a walking impediment, but of course that didn’t count) Female singer then solely continued to insult him throughout the 25 min we spent there. All because he did one loud laugh. First - She tried to give him the mic to sing and when he refused - I mean why would he sing???? - we came to listen to them! She then spoke in English and told him he could go upstairs to talk. He wasn’t even talking!!! And then gave a whole 5 min speech in Spanish on how people can’t talk at all during her performance. Woman was a clear narcissistic insecure person. Very rude - clearly never heard of nip covers while wearing a red lingerie lace de through top. AND Belting out old American songs. I felt so targeted- and this was the worst experience in such a lovely country with good people. I wish we could have actually spent time enjoying the...
Read moremy experience at this place was far from being good. I went there for a blues concert. actually the guys were playing 'okay', but the waiter was not friendly at all. because of the architecture of the bar you can't see the stage if you're not seated, which is quite a downturn for me. I was waiting there in the line to be seated. I asked the waiter if I could do so, he said no. some folks left and the person waiting in front of me went there and sat. now I was supposedly the first to be seated. afterwards two left and one table was empty. I had an eye contact with the waiter but he was completely careless. after some time two people arrived and he immediately told them to go take a seat. they don't charge a concert fee (they can do it for the sake of the band) but a small bottle of beer was kinda expensive (4,5) and I left during the break...
