I'll start with the good. The competent waiter and the cute interior saved this review from being 0 stars if possible. Somewhere in Mexico, there are a group of people slowly seething with umbrage. We had a salad of nopalitos (canned), crushed tortilla chips with a terrible dressing on top, like a watered down Catalina. The only saving grace was the cherry tomatoes. The cochinita pibile no flavor whatsover. Also, who garnishes things with dried herbs? In addition, cochinita pibile is supposed to be redolent of garlic, heavy with achiote, some heat from different chiles. The cochinita pibile was redolent of NOTHING! NADA! Vegetable fajitas should be a cakewalk. They managed to mess this up. In this day and age of Youtube, there should not be bad food. Perhaps that might be too much to ask. Perhaps they should go visit a Jose Tejas somewhere to start. (Do they exist in Europe?) It's not like I'm expecting a Mexican restaurant to understand the nuances of the usage of different dried chiles, but there is an accepted international idea of what constitutes good Mexican food, and this was the...
Read moreBest Authentic Mexican food in Madrid hands down!
The owner was born and raised in a small town of Michoacán, México and you can tell by the style of food served. It does carry some fusion in terms of local products in Madrid but the home cooked tortillas and fresh guac let you know it's legit.
I had the birria with home made Tortillas and a side of guac. Had a the Palomo (tequila with lime juice and tad of toronja). The food was amazing and reminded me back of Michoacan and my mother's cooking. The price was also reasonable. I think that whole thing was €13 and the portions were big.
The wait staff was amazing. Although they were busy they were nice and accommodating. The owner made room for people without reservations and also told them that if they wanted to come back a bit later he could add them to the list. Amazing! Went above and beyond.
They also give a complimentary shot of Mezcal at the end of your meal (and don't even think about refusing it as it will offend then...
Sino iba a...
