Tucked away on a quiet corner of Madrid, I found myself at a coffee shop that could have been mistaken for just another stop in Madridâs bustling cafĂ© scene. You know the typeâmodest, unassuming, with the kind of menu that promises the essentials: coffee, croissants, maybe a few pastries. Expectations were tempered; I wasnât looking for fireworks. What I got, however, was a mixed bagâuntil one glorious bite turned it all around.
Letâs start with the coffee. It was fine. Just fine. Not the soul-stirring shot of caffeine that turns a rough morning into poetry, but also not the bitter catastrophe that makes you question your life choices. The croissant? Adequate. It ticked the basic boxes: flaky enough, buttery enough, but forgettable. The kind of croissant you could eat blindfolded and then promptly forget you ever had.
And yet, this little cafĂ© didnât sink into mediocrity. What saved it? Service so warm and attentive youâd think you were being hosted by an old friend. The staff had a way of making every customer feel like a VIP, anticipating needs and delivering smiles that felt as genuine as they were rare. It wasnât just good service; it was the kind of hospitality that makes you linger a little longer, order another round, and maybe even forgive the forgettable croissant.
Then there was the cheese pastry. Oh, the cheese pastry. A revelation. Buttery, golden layers cradling a creamy, tangy filling that balanced richness with just the right hint of sweetness. It was the kind of pastry that doesnât just save a cafĂ©; it elevates it. One bite, and suddenly, everything elseâcoffee, croissant, even the dayâs earlier disappointmentsâfaded into the background. This wasnât just a pastry; it was a triumph, the crown jewel of an otherwise ordinary menu.
Would I come back? For the coffee or croissant alone? Probably not. But for the cheese pastry and the warm service that makes you feel like youâve found a home away from home? Absolutely. Sometimes, greatness comes not from perfection but from one perfect thing that lingers long after the last bite. This cafĂ©? Itâs got that, and itâs worth a visit just for that little...

My partner opted for the âBrunch Healthy Choice,â which he found to be a light and delicious option. I chose the âIstanbulâ from their breakfast selection, featuring halloumi cheese, tomato, avocado, and red onionsâa delightful combination that was both satisfying and refreshing. Our son indulged in crepes filled with strawberry jam and topped with Nutella; while not particularly light, he absolutely loved it.
The service was attentive, and the menu offered a variety of options to suit different tastes. For those seeking a pleasant brunch experience in Madrid, La Rollerie is certainly...
Read moreWe stopped by for a brunch/lunch here by chance and were pleasantly surprised by the food!
Ordered the iberian brunch and new york brunch, both already includes coffee/tea of your selection.
The iberian brunch is with tomato soup, jamon iberico, and spanish omelette. The jamon tastes really good and the omelette is soft/tasty. But the main highlight I think is the tomato soup.
New yorkian brunch is pretty standard but still pretty good, particularly enjoyed the bacon.
We didn't really read the menu so when the waiter sent out the dessert we were a bit surprised, thinking that we didn't ordered this đ đ
But the dessert is also amazing. You got soft pancake for the new yorkian and a spanish pancake for the iberian. All in all pretty good...
