Okay, let's get started. As you may have read in previous reviews, this is a famous place for Huevos Rotos (fried eggs cracked over potatoes)(french fries). We came right after opening and had no problem getting a table. At the table there is a basket with bread(not good, warm bread that one usually wants to eat with breakfast, we are talking about cold, hard, and was made yesterday bread). They have a QR code menu that is very simple to use. So far, so good minus the bread that will shatter your teeth if you dont soak it first. We ordered the regular Huevos Rotos and the ones with Bacon and two waters. The plates come out and they do look beautiful, but so do cakes covered in fondant (and that tastes like fecal matter, but I digress). The eggs and bacon were actually pretty soild. They had negative amounts of salt and pepper, but seasoning is subjective, so I guess I won't knock them for that. The issue though is the potatoes (french fries). These were 1000% frozen and then thrown in oil that was no where near hot enough, which created a plate of super oily cold french fries which were then drenched in egg yolk. They charged 10.50 euros for this. A plate of undercooked french fries with two eggs and some chopped up bacon... That plate was a sin and I could have made better blindfolded with only my feet. It was actually disrespectful that they proudly served that. We asked the waiter if the fries were frozen and he quickly looked away and said "No, they are made daily". "Sure buddy I can open a freezer bag of fries daily too". When we got the check, it was the final nail in the coffin. They charged us for the two cold rocks of bread that were pre put on the table before we even arrived. We didn't order or barely even attempt to eat these boulders they called bread.

Moral of the story, if you want to try this dish go to literally any of the hundreds of better and cheaper places. This is a tourist...

I had heard of this place on various travel groups i belong to for Spain but never had been. As the place that "invented" huevos rotos, i was like, "i really should give them a chance and make the time to go." And just, meh.

The service was great. They were toddler friendly and had a high chair. The interior was nicely decorated. The ambience was relaxed. It was brightly lit, and felt super modern with elements of tradition and history scattered about.

But it fell down on two things for me: The huevos rotos. The French fries were just meh. Also, meh. Like, the skinny fries that you get out of a freezer bag to make at home. The rest was okay, but the potatoes 🥔 were a huge disappointment. I can think of ten places I had better, including the local bar near Centro de Salud Fuencarral, and that seems like it shouldn't be the case in a place specializing in that dish. Corporate lunch atmosphere. Nothing wrong with a place that looks designed for corporate lunches. But totally not a vibe I wanted from a place that people describe as historic and classic. Lots of high priced corporate type lunch places about.

So not bad, but just not what I wanted from a place recommended for historic speciality local dish. At the price point, I would rather...

We went here due to a recommendation from the Telegraph newspaper that I found online. It was a good pick. Started off with a Partridge salad with a nice vinaigrette, though the meat was cold. It was a nice start to the meal.

That was followed with a mushroom, asparagus & Iberian ham dish that the waiter had recommended. The aroma that the dish gave off was wonderful and I couldn't wait to tuck into this one. Interestingly, the waiter also mixed in a raw egg yolk into the dish, a la carbonara style. It was phenomenally tasty. And I'd recommend you get this dish.

The pork cheeks was up next and that was cooked nice and succulent. We finished off sharing a chocolate mousse, which was just right to fill the two of us completely.

Our waiter was very good, spoke English and dissuaded me from ordering the lamb sweetmeat dish as he said it would be too filling for the two of us with what we had already ordered. Second time that's happened in Madrid, seems like the waiters here are good enough to let you know if they think you've over ordered, much appreciated.

The restaurant was busy, even at 3pm, but we managed to get a table immediately. Slightly noisy with the hub bub, but you're still able to hold a conversation without...

Los Huevos de Lucio, nestled in the heart of Madrid, is renowned for its traditional dish, Huevos Rotos (Broken Eggs). On my recent visit, I decided to try the famed Huevos Rotos topped with Jabugo ham. The dish itself consists of fried eggs served over a bed of soft potato chips, accompanied by a side of ham. While the combination was palatable, it certainly didn't live up to the hype or the price. At €25.90, the portion felt overpriced and far from a culinary delicacy. The service, however, was commendable, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The vermouth I ordered was a highlight, offering a nice touch to the meal. One downside was the automatic charge of €1 for a piece of bread, which was placed on the table without prior notice. It’s unclear if customers can request to have this removed, which felt like an unnecessary addition. Overall, while the service and vermouth were enjoyable, the main dish fell short in terms of value for money. I wouldn't consider returning or recommending Los Huevos de Lucio, especially given the steep price for what is essentially a simple, albeit traditional, meal.
