First, I need to highlight that I had the most amazing meal 2 years ago at Reganadientes and one of my purposes for my trip back to Madrid was to come back and enjoy their amazing food. I have continued to recommend it to friends visiting this beautiful city, but now I'm not sure that my recommendation should remain.
My trip this time was extremely disappointing. I decided to go for the Menu del Dia, which was only provided on request. I was given the a la carte upon arrival, which felt like a bit of a tourist trap.
I started off with the Vegetable Soup. I eventually had to hand it back. There was no seasoning at all - a tepid bowl of water with uninspired garden vegetables.
Then, the wrong order was brought to me for the main. I actually requested the chicken in peanut sauce, not the chilli pork - as someone who hates chilli this was a horrible surprise. Additionally, the chicken dish was adorned with coriander which is another thing I can't stand. I believe it should be standard in 2024 to ask customers about dietary requirements - for example, if I were Halal, being served pork would be a walk out moment. Nevertheless, the chicken dish was immensely uninspired and contained no seasoning either. The coriander, should have I had been a fan, provided the only nutritional value to it. The chicken also contained inedible cartilage which wasn't a pleasant surprise. The rice was well cooked though.
Finally, I will served a chocolate mousse. This was rich and creamy, a lovely way to finish the meal.
On a final note, I felt like I was continuing to rub the staff up the wrong way. They were kind enough to charge my laptop during the meal, and also offered me a complimentary coffee to replace my starter. As a fluent Spanish speaker, I also don't appreciate staff talking to me in English due to the colour of my skin and maybe obvious nationality. I started off fully in Spanish, but I called another colleague over to state that my main was incorrect, they replied in broken English which I find to be condescending. Finally, the payment process was the most frosty experiences of my life - I wasn't asked if I had enjoyed the food (I had even shared pictures of my last experience with the waitress on arrival which had interested her!), neither did I get a thank you for paying, she just walked away like I had slagged off her mother. When I said goodbye at the end to the team, I was ignored and left in a cloud of awkwardness. I don't believe that I was a difficult customer, but my rather simple expectations were not met and I felt vilified.
My meal last time was so special but this important part of my Madrid itinerary felt so disappointed that I felt obliged to give...
Read moreThe food itself was good and the restaurant facilities were nice. However, the person in charge of seating parties as they come in needs a lot of work on refining her hospitality skills. To call this person rude or inhospitable would be a marked improvement. We came in right after the restaurant opened for dinner service, were seated and proceeded to order. Within 1 hour we were close to wrapping up our meal and at this stage this person decided to approach us to tell us she needed our table as she had other people coming in (going through a full meal in 1 hour with a party of 7 is quite an accomplishment), initially we thought it was a untactful joke, but when she pressed the issue the whole experience at the restaurant took a defínete downturn. Needless to say would not recommend the restaurant to anyone particularly given the large number of restaurants and bars available in the chueca region of Madrid, all serving excellent menus with the...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this place upon moving to Madrid and it’s the best thing that could have happened! I’m Mexican and this is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Madrid, including for vegetarians! They’re flexible and have so many options. We adore the food and service, especially Manuela that has been exceptional on several occasions.
We recommend the cauliflower, fried cheese, corn ribs, tortilla soup, mushroom tacos, and tuna tostadas (probably my favorite ever).
Don’t skip the deserts, they’re really good. Just be prepared for large portions!
Finally, both mocktails on the menu are so worth it even if you like alcohol.
We will be sure to keep...
