El Pilon has been a nice experience in Palma. We couldn’t reserve a table online so we decided to walk there and check what was the deal.
The restaurant is small and cozy and full when we arrived and considering the queue when we arrived, it is quite popular. In less than 20’ we had a table. We had pane, olives and aioli as starter. Green peppers and artichokes. Then lamb & pulpo.
Water and a couple of glasses of red wine.
Portions were big and presented in a nice way. Food was really tasteful, I was in love with the lamb.
Unfortunately we were too full for the dessert and we didn’t manage to try (I think was) a cheesecake that we saw served on another table.
The waiter who took care of our order, was really nice and he was checking on us time to time if we were good.
I definitely recommend this place. I understand it’s not possible to reserve a table online but directly there. We went for Easter so even though Palma was not fully crowded yet we managed to sit quickly. If you go in summer might...
Read moreAfter a friend, also visiting Palma, mentioned this place, and enjoyed it, we decided to go there for lunch, on the last day of our trip. The place has a nice feel to it, tucked away in a small street, close to the busy shopping area. We received a warm welcome and sat down to check the Spanish menu, of Tapas and more. Decided on Menu del dia at 12 euro a head, which includes pan peyes ( village bread ) ali oli, and olives. The Ali oli was excellent and the bread tasty and warm. My starter was mixed salad, a good mixture of fresh vegetables, my partner had the soup, also very good and flavorful. Included also a glass of house wine ! Our main was pan fried pork with an unusual veg mix of aubergine, courgette and tomato, served as one. Good. Desert ? Yes, and that was Almond cake, light and tasty. Enjoyed our lunch, excellent value and good friendly service, and after three days in Palma, the best value of our stay. Will return when next...
Read moreWe tried to eat there the other night, but they don't take reservations and the wait was about 90 minutes. Went back for lunch and got the last table without a wait. Service was generally efficient, without overt fawning.
We started with fried breaded anchovies. They were ok. Larger than expected, and the breading wasn't needed. Directly fried might have been a better idea. The grilled razor clams were very good. The octopus was fabulous. We shared white wine and sangria. The ham and manchego plate was very good too.
The venue itself is in a walking alleyway, and caters to locals, but the word is out. It seems to have been crafted out of a tunnel or bunker of some type. There are skylights to brighten the space, and uplighting works well. It's a small space, so taking clandestine pictures is all but impossible. The bathrooms are tiny, about airplane size, though very...
