When we were in Santiago, we decided to check out a tapas place. I looked up some options online and found Cabalo Branco recommended on a Spanish website. The tapas were decent, but what really stood out was how quick and good the staff was. We ordered a bunch of stuff like chorizo, croquettes, traditional tetilla cheese, fried mackerel, and ali-oli fries. They also gave us some free bread, but it wasn't very fresh. They also served ham and pimientos padrón for free, and those were actually pretty tasty. We got some "claras" to drink, which is beer with lemon juice. Overall, I'd say you should give Cabalo Branco a shot if you're ever in Santiago. It's extremely well located within walking distance of the Cathedral and the staff is very efficient. Just don't come expecting fancy food.

"This is a bar for adults not kids." That's what the proprietor told me when I asked about peanuts when ordering our drinks. We were a bit taken aback, but quite quickly we received our drinks and very nice complimentary pintxos that were much better than peanuts. The plaza is cute and it's very near the cathedral. Authentic and affordable.

Not the best place in town, service is fairly poor and abrupt, nice terrace area though in a decent little square. We were given a little tapa with our drinks - which was a tough piece of jamon on bread, and a tuna/pepper pastry slice, pretty typical traditional tapa, but not impressive.

I have been touring northern Spain and went to Cabalobranco with friends this afternoon. We returned this evening for pre dinner drinks of Gin and Tonic and Vodka and Tonic. The first thing I noticed was that we were served crisps as tapas but everyone else were given Patatas bravas, even if they were only drinking coca cola. I thought perhaps we had just arrived at the wrong time. When I asked for the bill we had been charged €8 each! When I told the guy I thought it was very expensive he changed the bill to €6 each. Although I still thought it was overpriced I paid the bill and moved on. Whilst we were at the next bar we asked how much they would charge for a gin and tonic and were told €4.50. The barman said that there should be a price list by law so we returned to Cabalobranco and looked at the list. A Larios gin and tonic was showing as €4.50. When the guy saw me looking he came up and said the price was €6 but when I challenged him he said he was confused! He paid me back the difference but it was an obvious rip off! I have been in Spain for 13 years and have never had this treatment before. I was so upset as the Spanish people are so...
