A Timeless Charm: A Heartfelt Review of The Cinnamon Grand Coffee Shop

Our recent stay in Sri Lanka was beautifully punctuated by our mornings at the Cinnamon Grand coffee shop. Walking in was like stepping into a cherished memory; the elegant ambience has retained its classic charm from yesteryears, offering a wonderfully familiar and comforting consistency that is so rare to find.

The experience was anchored by the fantastic food—the rich, aromatic coffee and the perfectly flaky, buttery croissants were a daily highlight. However, what truly elevated our visit from excellent to extraordinary was the exceptional staff.

Upon my wife casually wondering if pesto sauce could be added to her croissant, Chef Anuja didn't hesitate. He personally went to the kitchen and prepared a fresh batch from scratch just for her. This act of genuine, above-and-beyond hospitality was unforgettable.

As a Sri Lankan who spent nearly 15 years in Russia, returning to the legendary Cinnamon Grand and being welcomed by such authentic, warm-hearted service felt incredibly special. It was a powerful reminder of the legendary grace of Sri Lankan hospitality. This sentiment was echoed by our wonderful waiter, Maheshika, whose attentive and courteous service ensured we felt well-looked-after throughout.

The Cinnamon Grand has certainly not lost its lustre; it continues to shine brilliantly. The food is fantastic, offering remarkable value without being overpriced. Our only minor observation was that the temperature in the seating area felt a bit warm, and the air conditioning could perhaps be adjusted for optimal comfort.

That small point aside, our experience was flawless. We left feeling not just satisfied, but truly valued—a testament to a hotel that has perfectly preserved its magic.

On a delightfully unexpected note, our cappuccino even had a special guest appearance! By sheer accident, we managed to capture Sri Lankan cricket star Kusal Mendis photobombing our coffee shot. We certainly have no complaints—it’s not every day your morning brew gets a celebrity...

Coffee Stop @ Cinnamon Grand is always that place where many enjoyed coming not just to have a coffee n pastry, but it has always been the place to sit n relax, have a meeting, come with family & friends. The place, the ambiance very different to any other star hotel coffee shop to any other coffee houses in Colombo- always been THAT place to come more often to chill.

Even though it never served great coffee its prices has always been VFM, one time pastry stop served great pastries, cake, desserts, with good service n always cleaned tables n arranged chairs. But now since of late everything have fallen off the standards. Taste, quality, look n size all have really come down big time , even not so great coffee has got worse with cleanliness n service standards deteriorated . Its sad because still that place holds a special place in many peoples hearts, still willing to come n enjoy the peace n relaxation that brings to one. Listening to live music, observing the huzzle n buzzle of the hotel lobby, chatting with your friends munching into a savoury pastry n slipping a coffee latte is something that people enjoy. Its that PLACE that makes one go again n again, that unique, happening place. Hope the management looks into this to improve the service standards it once had, quality of food n cleanliness of the place. Coffee Stop I suppose is still THAT PLACE to many who are used to it... that is WHY people keep on...

Visiting Colombo from overseas. Went there for a coffee. Service was very bad. I placed my order which included 2 coffees and a fish cutlet, I think it's called. Very busy and hurried area where order is placed at coffee stop counter. They placed the plated cutlet immediately on the counter and then I stood waiting for coffees. Waiter then said he would bring it to table. He took the cutlet but no coffees arrived. I went and cancelled the .order after that and returned the cutlet as it appeared that no coffees had been made at this stage Coffee Stop needed to work on its efficiency in carrying out orders placed. Not everyone has the time.to wait around till it suits the staff to fulfill the placed and paid for orders. We paying customers and not getting it for free. Expected more from service at such an establishment.

Went to another establishment to get our coffee fix and had great coffee and fantastic...
