Feedback on Our Recent Daycation at Morven Hotel, Colombo
We recently had a daycation at your property and would like to share our experience. While we appreciated certain aspects of our stay, unfortunately, there were several shortcomings that impacted our overall satisfaction.
Arrival Experience Upon arrival, we were disappointed with the welcome extended by the front office staff. There was no warm greeting or welcome drink provided, either at check-in or after we reached our room, which is generally expected in a property rated as 4-star.
Room & Cleanliness The bedroom was decent, though not exceptional. However, the washroom had a strong unpleasant odor, prompting us to call Housekeeping. They came and sprayed air freshener but did not offer a long-term solution or express any apology.
Room Service We ordered French fries and a club sandwich, which were tasty. However, the room service staff appeared nervous and unwelcoming, which made us feel like outsiders rather than valued guests.
Package Confusion There was significant confusion regarding the duration of our daycation package. While the offer clearly stated 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for LKR 10,000, we were first told our check-out was at 4:00 p.m., then called again at 3:00 p.m. and informed that was the check-out time. This inconsistency reflects a lack of proper communication among staff.
Pool Bar Experience The pool was clean and well-maintained, and we had a good time. Special thanks to the bartender, who was friendly and attentive. We ordered two beers and a bottle of Sprite and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Billing Issues However, when it came to settling the bill, I was told the system’s day-end had not been done, and therefore card payments couldn’t be processed. I requested the charges to be posted to our room. Shockingly, at check-out, the charges were not reflected in our bill. I had to inform staff of my consumption. Only then did they verify and add the charges. Furthermore, instead of issuing a proper bill, the staff showed the total amount on a calculator. This is highly unprofessional and not acceptable for a 4-star hotel.
Overall Impression While we did enjoy certain elements of the property, especially the pool area, the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and absence of guest care from the staff left us disappointed. Staff should be trained to take responsibility and offer apologies when required. If these areas are not improved, it may affect the reputation of the hotel in the long run.
We hope this feedback is taken constructively and used to enhance your...
Read moreOooof where did I start? I didn’t like a single thing about this hotel.
Tldr: wait times too long, dirty bedding, awful food, creepy dining room staff
Check in is incredibly slow, the staff insisted they didn’t have our reservation despite us already paying. Took about an hour here.
They gave us a superior room when we booked premium. When we complained they said they had a premium room available, but I had to wait for thirty minutes. Turns out they checked a new guest in during this waiting period and they didn’t have any premium rooms available.
They take my number down and say we’ll get you your room, go enjoy the city. At about 9 o’clock, five hours after our check in, they tell us they have a room available. They move our luggage and turns out it is exactly the same but on a higher floor. They tried passing it off as a premium room.
Guess what? The room in which they first checked us in WASNT CLEANED after we left. I saw the housekeeping tuck in the sheets. They never sent anyone to change the bedding that we sat on for a while during the day.
Psa the toilet never flushes well.
Dining: it was a buffet, very mid. I was eating with a co traveller and when she left I was eating by myself. This server was too ‘friendly’, hovering over my table the entire time and asking me where I’m from, where I’m going to next, how old I was etc etc. I said I had everything I need multiple times and thanks in a dismissive way. He didn’t get the hint. When I had enough I didn’t reply to him and just stared at my phone the whole time. But he stood right in front of me trying to talk. Keep in mind none of the other guests (and there were many!) got this weird and bizarre attention. I was so uncomfortable I got up and walked past him. Like stop harassing guests. In short: creepy server was staring when i was with someone and approached me when she left, wouldn’t leave despite me not showing any interest.
The room had YELLOW bedding. I can’t even...
Read moreUnderstaffed. Rude front desk staff, probably underpaid or not trained in hospitality practices. It shows in their behaviour as if they don't care about guests at all. She gave our room keys when we checked in. When we opened the door, we were shocked to find another guest already occupying that room. That person was equally shocked to see us enter the room. When I reported this to the front desk, she was very casual about this and said she will send some one. No apologies at all. Never in my entire travel across the world , I have come across such an experience. It is also a huge security issue. The we waited for some one to come up and got another room later. For one of the rooms, the key didn't work. Again we called and waited, but the key continued to have some problems during usage. Quite frustrating check in experience.
It rained that night and guess what, our room got flooded with water entering via window pane in the bathroom and got into bedroom. We reported this and again the same casual attitude. A house keeping staff came and mopped the floor. I asked her does it happen every time it rains in Colombo. She said yes and many rooms have this problem. This speaks volumes of the management attitude towards guest experience. Knowing that it rains a lot in Colombo, these guys are operating a hotel like this without addressing these issues .
My advice to anyone who is looking to book is this: AVOID this hotel, probably till you hear about significant changes in their service levels and the maintenance of this property. It is actually in a great location, but the mgmt has to pay attention to these matters to get guests to come again. Also the breakfast buffet spread is very limited and food quality needs to improve as well. Overall, Not worth the money, there are...
