Extremely poor experience and management by Nishantha Weerasinghe Restaurant Manager at Cheers Pub.

We made a reservation on Wednesday to watch the football games on Saturday evening, stating the games and times when making our reservation.

Half way through our reservation, we were asked to move from the restaurant area to the bar area because a table that had just arrived, and obviously friends of the manager, wanted to watch another game.

We had made a reservation too and were there first, but the manager was not interested and didn’t even bother to come and talk to us until we went to him asking to clarify what had happened.

We then switched locations to the bar area, only to be told that a caucasian group were at this location first and are watching another game, so they won’t be able to accommodate us there too.

We were at location #1 first and had a reservation, yet we were asked to move to location #2 and not accommodated there either. Made zero sense to us.

Our food and drinks were taken away and not moved with us despite being only half way done.

We spoke to the manager several times and he was not interested in accommodating our reservation. The treatment we received was absolutely shocking. He was obviously catering to his buddies.

We then tried watching the game on the small screen outside the restaurant, but the audio was synced to another screen and it was unwatchable.

We were forced to leave and go to Playtrix at Colombo City Center. It was a much much better experience with the games we intended to watch shown on all the big screens.

We’ve experienced poor service at Cheers Pub before, around 2016/17, and stopped patronizing the restaurant, but wanted to give it a second chance and it was even more disappointing this time.

We will not be returning to any of the hotel restaurants, nor recommending the hotel to anyone in the future.

The food at Cheers Pub is undoubtedly a highlight of the experience. The menu boasts an impressive range of dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying their "Pub Platter," which was a delightful assortment of appetizers, including crispy calamari, succulent chicken wings, and mouthwatering sliders. Each item was skillfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The "Signature Beef Burger" was another standout - juicy, perfectly cooked, and accompanied by a side of crispy fries.

Cheers Pub's selection of craft beers and beverages is another reason to celebrate. The bar offers an impressive range of options, from local brews to international favorites. The bartenders are knowledgeable and skilled, ready to recommend the perfect drink to complement your meal. Whether you're a beer enthusiast or prefer a creative cocktail, you're sure to find something that tickles your taste buds.

I recently visited Cheers Pub at Cinnamon Grand on January 12th, and I must say, it remains our all-time favorite spot in Colombo! The pub has now moved to the upper floor, and the new setting is absolutely stunning. It has a modern, niche look with beautiful furnishings, making the space feel even more inviting and cozy—just like stepping into a classic British pub.

The atmosphere is superb, enhanced by a fantastic poolside view. The pub now features two distinct sections, one of which includes a pool table, adding an extra layer of entertainment. Their new menu is also impressive, offering a great variety of food and drinks.

A special mention must go to Matilda, who has been part of Cheers Pub for a long time and continues to provide exceptional service. She is well-experienced, warm, and incredibly attentive, ensuring that every guest is comfortable and well taken care of. She was previously in charge of the kids’ play area, and I have personally seen how lovingly she interacted with children, making them feel welcome and entertained. Our kids always look forward to meeting and chatting with her, as she treats them with such kindness and genuine care. She has truly been a valuable presence at Cheers, creating a homely and friendly environment that makes this pub feel extra special.

The staff as a whole is well-trained and highly professional, making every visit a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Cheers Pub for its modern ambiance, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere.

One request for the management: It would be wonderful if the kids’ play area could be included in the new space, as it was a fantastic addition in the previous setup.
