Our experience at Dao Krua Thai was truly exceptional! We visited with a large group of 20, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming or attentive. They went above and beyond to accommodate us, allowing us to stay for over 7 hours, which made the gathering all the more special. It’s rare to find a restaurant that is so flexible and considerate, and this kindness left a wonderful impression on everyone.

The ambience was another highlight. Dao Krua Thai offers both indoor and outdoor seating, each with its own unique charm. The interior was cosy and serene, while the outdoor area allowed us to enjoy Colombo’s warm evening air in a relaxed setting. Together, these elements created a peaceful and inviting atmosphere, perfect for an extended stay.

We were also pleased with the ample parking available, which is a major plus in Colombo. Additionally, the cleanliness of the facilities was impressive – the restrooms were spotless, which speaks to the high standards maintained here.

The menu featured a good variety of authentic Thai dishes that catered to different tastes within our group. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, bringing out rich flavours that felt true to Thai cuisine. While the drinks menu could benefit from a bit more variety, the options provided worked well with the meal.

In summary, Dao Krua Thai exceeded our expectations, offering not only delicious Thai food but also an unforgettable dining experience thanks to their outstanding hospitality. I highly recommend it for anyone in Colombo looking for a place to enjoy great food in a warm, welcoming setting – whether for a quick meal or an extended...

Dao Krua Thai – A Slice of Thailand in Colombo 🇹🇭🌿

Tucked inside Palm Grove, Colombo 03, Dao Krua Thai offers a homey, laid-back vibe with open-air dining that feels both breezy and intimate. The space is filled with colorful Thai-themed décor—lanterns, wind chimes, and vibrant wall art. There’s even a mini herb garden on the side, adding freshness to the ambiance.

The staff are warm, welcoming, and always smiling. There’s something comforting about the way they interact. One of the Aunties, in particular, had such a gentle, kind aura—it made me feel like I was back home, and for a moment, I genuinely missed my mom. 🥹💛

Here’s what we tried:

🍜 Clear Soup Chicken with Glass Noodles – LKR 2700 10/10 – Comfort in a bowl! Light, savory, with a perfect balance of saltiness. Generous meatballs and noodles. Great for sharing.

🐟 Tamarind Fish – LKR 2700 8/10 – Not overly sour as expected. The sweet-sour balance is spot on, just like a ripe tamarind. Crisp outside, tender inside.

🥘 Green Curry Beef – LKR 2700 9/10 – Rich, spicy, and full of Thai herbs. The beef is tender, and the flavors really hit the mark.

🍚 Steamed Rice – LKR 800 10/10 – Simple but aromatic. Fluffy and a great companion to the dishes.

🧾 Total Bill with Service Charge: LKR 11,770

🛁 Washroom – 6/10 Functional but could use some upgrades. Not a deal-breaker if you’re here just to enjoy good food.

Overall: Highly recommended if you’re craving authentic Thai flavors in a cozy, colorful setting—with the warmth that feels like...

The food was very tasty. But the place was really crammed. The food was priced matching to a proper restaurant eventhough the place lacked good ambience or service. The head chef specifically came out of the kitchen to ask us to leave. Her reasons were they want people to leave after 30mins of food being placed on the food due to corona. She mentioned people are lining up at the front waiting to get in, but in truth no one was standing outside in line. What was annoying the most was eventhough there were customers who were before us and who got their food before us, none of them were asked to leave. We were a group of girls who were quietly minding our business. I didn't like how we were treated. We had food left on the table and I was still eating. I immediately put the food down and we asked for the bill, paid and stood outside the restaurant until our vehicles arrived. We must have stayed outside for more than 10 minutes, the customers who were there before us weren't even asked to leave until that point. Probably they didn't like to approach other male customers only asking female only...

9 out of 10 - @theveggiesloth From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming, with a cozy ambiance that made it a great spot for a laid-back evening. The service was exceptional, easily a 10/10. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and eager to help us navigate the menu. He provided thoughtful recommendations and gave great explanations of the dishes, which made us feel confident in our choices. The food itself was outstanding. The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of flavor, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. We also tried the Vegetable Green Thai Curry, which was absolutely delicious. It had a nice kick of spice, but not too overwhelming, making it just the right level of heat. The only downside was the mosquitos, but that’s partly my fault as I should have applied repellent. That said, what we did have was fantastic, and I would definitely return. Overall, a great dining experience — I’d rate it a solid 9/10. Highly recommend it for anyone craving authentic Thai flavors with excellent service!

Surprisingly good Thai food in Colombo. We were craving for Thai food and found this restaurant. The restaurant was quite empty at lunchtime which made us suspicious. But the food proved us wrong. It first seems a bit pricey, but portions are very generous, we couldn’t finish. The green curry with chicken brought me straight back to Thailand. It was as good as the best ones we had in siam. Not too sweet, creamy, intense, but could have been more spicy. The fried morning glory was just as good. The fried rice looked a bit strange in the beginning, because they use round corn rice instead of Thai rice. Taste was very good, but the pork was too fat. Finally the chicken with cashew nut was very good, the chicken was even deep fried as the original recipe calls for. You don’t even find that often in Thailand. Taste was different than the ones in Thailand, cashew nuts were very few. The garden seating is quite nice. There is even a part we’re the grow their own herbs and vegetables. All in all a great experience, if we forget about the hair in the fried rice.
