Mercury Guest house Colombo 3 — Hotel in Colombo

I stayed at this guesthouse during one of the most difficult times of my life—in the middle of my breast cancer treatment (almost 2 months). I had to leave the country shortly after and wasn’t even able to properly communicate or collect my belongings.

Nearly 10 months later, I reached out, not expecting much… but to my surprise, they still had my bicycle and helmet safely stored, just as I left them. Even more touching—they refused to accept any money for taking care of it all this time.

This is more than a place to stay. It’s a place with heart. Thank you for your kindness, your integrity, and for reminding me that humanity still thrives in quiet corners of the world.

Great location. Clean rooms. The value for money...

As expected given the price (Colombo turns out is very expensive). Very basic accomodation, with not the cleanest bathroom. Having said that, it wasn’t disgusting, and the room was clean. Had AC which worked great. There were some mosquitoes despite us keeping all windows closed. Didn’t get an opportunity to use the common kitchen, so no feedback re that unfortunately. The wifi I will admit was terrible… like we were not able to access it in our rooms at all.

Overall it was perfect for what we needed, which was a central location in Colombo for a night (very accessible by local bus to/from Galle Face, Pettah, Fort Railway Junction etc, walking distance to nearby Cargills Food City). It met our requirements, would consider...

We booked a couple’s room with a private washroom but were disappointed to find that it was part of a converted kitchen. While the washroom was private in terms of access, it was located outside on the veranda, which compromised privacy. Initially, basic amenities like blankets and towels were missing, but after requesting a blanket, the receptionist promptly provided it. Speaking of the receptionist, he was the highlight of our stay—helpful, attentive, and always smiling. His effort to assist us made a big difference and was much appreciated.
