I'm not one to go online and complain, but this place deserves it and then some. We had an 8pm reservation, and when we arrived a table was not ready for us. We went to the bar which was quite full with others waiting for a table. When we tried to order cocktails we were told they were out of specific ingredients to make them, so we selected different cocktails and again were told they didn't have the ingredients to make them and that we must be looking at an old menu even though the drinks were on the menu the hostess just gave us. 35 minutes later we were seated, and given Swedish menus. Rather than make a fuss we just downloaded the english menu. About 10 minutes after we were seated, 2 guys were seated next to us, followed by a party of 4 behind us about 10 minutes after that. A waiter finally shows up and walks past us and brings bread for the guys at the table next to us, takes their order and walks off... ok... 5 minutes later he comes to our table and asks if we're ready to order. We place our order and shortly after a different waiter brings out some bread for us, which consisted of 1/3 of a slice of a dark bread, and 1 mini loaf of some other bread. Roughly 20 minutes later our arctic char appetizer comes out. I've had samples at Costco bigger than this. It was literally a 2"x2" piece of fish, and serving spoon scoop of crab salad with some puree drizzled on the plate. This is the last bit of food we would get for almost an hour. The 2 guys that came in after us, and the table of 4 behind us were both served way before us. At 10:20pm, I told my wife, if the food doesn't come in the next 10 minutes, we're out of here. They must have heard us, cause the food magically appeared at 10:28 almost 2 hours after we were seated. To top it off, it was burnt. I'm not sure how you can screw up Swedish meatballs but most of them were burnt, and the pieces of pork belly/bacon cubes that came with the black pudding were also charred. These guys made no attempt whatsoever to bring out any additional bread during the time we were waiting for food, and made no offer to at least comp the appetizer to make up for the wait, like any GOOD restaurant would do. We had another engagement after dinner, so we were forced to scarf down our food rather than enjoy it. We asked for the bill, said eff you on the gratuity, and left. This place is a total sh*tshow for being a "10 best in Stockholm" restaurant. Could also be they knew were American, and this was their way of having a good time with us. Either way,...

Every year, the weekend around 10th of November, we usually go out for roasted goose dinner to celebrate St Martin's Day. And the restaurant we went the most was certainly Den Gyldene Freden. Here the tradition, food and atmosphere all came into such an exquisite blend that as soon as I finished the dinner and left the restaurant, I immediately looked forward to the next year's visit. Here the freshly roasted goose just would be brought into the dining room, and tranched in front of the guests and directly into the plates. Both the filé and other edible parts, topped with plum sauce and vegetables. So delicious! Last year however we were not able to come, since the restaurant was closed for renovation, so we booked another restaurant. Understandably, this year with such a high great expectation we returned to the Gyldene Freden for the long anticipated goose dinner. The starter, black soup, came quite quickly. Very little substance, some pieces of apple, and mashed meat of some sort. But it was ok. In those years before, the staff would always come to the table and proudly present all the exotic ingredients in the soup. This year though, the soup was just delivered to the table, without much to say. In the hindsight, I realized that, there was indeed not much to say. Then came the long wait for the main dish, an hour long. When finally the main dish arrived, I thought it was a joke, a shock. And almost said it out loud before the staff left. In the plate lies two pieces of small meat, not much bigger than the thumb nail, alongside with a sausage of the size of a prince sausage. One of the meat pieces was definitely overcooked and might have been once the end of the filé. We topped the whole thing up with some vegetables. And quickly went through the dinner in disbelief. The dessert was not much better, an apple pie obviously stayed too long in the oven. Have we been eating all too slowly, I wondered. We later learned that the restaurant has a new owner coming in since last year's renovation, no wonder. Yes, there was high inflation; and yes, there was a pandemic, and food are becoming scarce due to the war. We all know that. But still, I couldn't find a feasible explanation for this horrible dinner, almost 1,200 SEK with wine pairing. Oh by the way, the wine glasses for the starter, the main dish and the dessert were all the same, without any fuss of any sort. Streamlined. Right away, I started to fumble with my mobile to see which other restaurants in town may offer this goose dinner. Just a prep for...

I really hesitated before putting this review bit will do it anyways. I had a short visit in stockholm and wanted to try traditional dishes and this restaurant pops up, I went to it. I found no waiter to welcome me so I didn’t want to intrude so I waited outside and then the waiter came and he said Hi and he ignored me while he should have said what can I fo for you, so I stood there for 10 seconds until I said I want to eat for one person, He sat me in a table of his choosing, I was okay with that he was kind enough to suggest few things that I gladly took and were very tasty, he kept coming back to see if everything was alright and then he noticed my coat on tge chair and he suggested to put it in the wardrobe, i said yes. I tinished my lunch, head to the bathroom and went back, he was already in the reception so I asked for the check, instead if him giving me the check or bringing the check by table like he did for everyone, he wanted to me to pay ath reception area since it was already my way from coming to the bathroom. He handed me the card reader and left me to pay, the reader suggested to tip him si I was like sure he was nice enought but what I didnt understand is first why he made me pay in the reception unlike other people and 2 instead of him giving me the coat, he said that I fould take it from the wardrobe, I was like what? But I didn’t react since I was shy, he went to other tables, called one of his colleagues spoke to her in local and she proceeded helping me with the payment, bear in mind i didn’t know why he couldnt wait for 2seconds until i finish paying. The colleague asked to give me the receipyt but I kindly declined, he came from other tables and he handed me the receipt and I looked at him saying No thank you. And then I asked his colleague to give me the coat ans she gave it to me with the hanger on. So I laughed and i said yeah ill have to wear it and I took the hanger off and said thank you. I was so perplexed and confused about the whole situation since it didnt look at all...

I had a chance to dine at this restaurant, which happens to be one of the oldest in the world and a landmark in Gamla Stan, Stockholm. I was with my colleagues at the Karolinska Institutet and my friends brought me here. The eatery has retained its old world ambience with series of steps going downward to basement floors, where tables are laid; it exudes a feeling of medieval times. The menu is very carefully chosen to reflect Swedish tradition and the benchmark food of this restaurant. My colleagues guided me in selecting the food. The starter was Toast Skagen. A very Swedish dish, it has a layer of shrimp and mayonnaise on toast with dill on top and a heap of vendace roe as crowning glory. Vendace roe is eggs from Vendace fish from the Salmon family specially curated in the Baltic sea with a delightful orange color. With these heavenly ingredients this dish tasted like music to the taste buds. Never to be missed. Then I had the famous Swedish Meatballs. I never had this and made a point to have this dish when I'm in an authentic Swedish restaurant. The meatballs are firm but soft and taste so good with gravy. The mashed potato is very creamy and soothing. Pickled cucumbers add a zing to the taste, but the winner among the sides are the lingonberries. I had these berries for the first time; sweet and soury, these are close to cranberries and beautifully balance the taste of the meatballs. It was a pleasure to dine at this iconic restaurant where I could get a glimpse of true Swedish food.

Made a spontanious call and got a table instantly. The lady on the phone was very polite. When arriving there me and my English speaking partner were met by a waiter that showed us to a table. The sectional waiter (with Hungarian background, unfortunately I can't recall the name) was very professional and spoke both Swedish and English fluently. Menus were provided in both Swedish and English as well. The ambiance was very good and really gave an authentic feeling to the restaurant with a history from 1722. Both starters and main courses were delivered quick and the waiter made several passes to our table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We ordered a seafood mix on a sandwich and a ham salad for starters, also the makrill and meatballs as main courses. All dishes were very good, but could to some I believe seem small in portions. We however left feeling completely full. We ordered lingon- and blueberry Softdrinks which were fresh tasting. All in all we felt very well tended for and considering the service and location I'd say the price is agreeable for the menu items.
