Husband surprises me with dinner at Oummi with our two young boys and my 70+ year old mother and 80 year old father to celebrate my birthday! We get a table with rows of benches on both sides, which is inconvenient if anyone needs to leave the table. Plus mum had a knee op recently and needs more space for her leg. Requested a different table and the manager with dark hair and blond highlights makes a face after saying he'd look at the bookings. We were instantly reduced to the category of "difficult" guests despite the varied needs of our party and me requesting a different table in a polite way - very young children and elderly parents. Eventually we got a better table but I can't say I felt special, the occasion felt special, or that the staff or manager did/said anything to make us feel special despite knowing it was a birthday booking. A very anonymous experience. As a comparison, the dark haired young manager with the blond highlights went to another table with international guests at least 3 times to cheer, explain the menu and chit chat. We've been to Oummi before, sans kids and elderly parents and on that occasion it was fine. I frankly don't think they are interested in any guests whatsoever who due to being very young or old have special needs. They don't like to be inconvenienced. International guests are exciting for them however. Not setting my foot...
Read moreWe have been very excited about this restaurant in the past. Unfortunately, this visit was a big disappointment.
The food was, as always, very good. However, the service from some of the staff was far below what one can expect. We didn't feel welcome from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by a grumpy host, and it didn't get better. They didn't have the wine we had selected, which can happen sometimes. The waiter suggested another wine that was supposed to be almost the same. Knowing our wines, we knew it wasn't, but to avoid being difficult, we accepted the suggestion. When we received the wine, it didn't taste good—it wasn't satisfactory for us. It had obvious cork taint. Respectable restaurants typically offer a new bottle immediately. Here, the waiter tasted the wine herself and insisted it was fine. We've traveled extensively and dined at restaurants around the world. While we've rarely encountered bad wine, the few times we have, we've never been treated like this.
It's very unfortunate we had this experience, as service is crucial in a restaurant. Good food alone is not enough. This was our last...
Read moreThe ambiance is nice but a bit congested. I was here with colleagues and since we were a large group, we sat downstairs. It’s nicer upstairs but again, quite tight. There is a bar area on one side and the restaurant on the other. Food was absolutely amazing! Being a vegetarian, you are so spoilt at Oummi since they have a wide range to offer. We went all in with the set menu and it’s all shared food so there were several small dishes where you get to try one food item each. I might have skipped a couple of dishes since I was so full and for once I had no room for dessert!! There must’ve been about 25 different types of dishes that were brought out. It’s sort of Lebanese tapas 😀 a dream come true! I feel like going back even as I write this haha. The staff was nice and friendly but service felt a bit slow, maybe because they were so busy (even in the middle of the week!) Location is nice, just a minute’s walk from the Gamlastan tube station but parking can be...
