Review Update - I hadn't seen the response from The Old Brewer from my previous visit, but seeing the consistently good reviews, decided to give it another shot.
I'm happy I did.
I was surprised that they recognized me from my previous visit and was very impressed how they walked me through what had happened last time and their absolute commitment to being an amazing place to dine. Gary (forgive me for naming people) went out of his way to make sure my experience was great. Thank you!
Every restaurant has a one-off, whether be a good or bad night, but its the places that consistently deliver a good experience and meal. The only way to do that is by always improving and The Old Brewer Public House is obviously committed to that. I look forward to going back again!
Original review: Mixed feelings on the Old Brewer Public House.
Their hours show closing at 10:30 but when I arrived at 9:00 I was informed that only fish and chips were available. Now I wasn't too disappointed since I had fish and chips the last time and they were good. Bad choice
I was asked to close out my check at 9:45 at last call as they were closing at 10:00 p.m. Now, that might just be a matter of updating their hours but a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to trying a few beers.
The fish and chips we're okay. They had a thick batter which frankly is not to my taste and even peeling off a bit where the fish seemed a bit dry. The one thing I did like was the mashed peas, but otherwise it was a little mediocre which goes against what I've read in previous reviews (and my previous experience).
Service was quite transactional with a order now so we can close up kind of feeling.
My recommendation would be try this place earlier. I was really into trying their bangers & mash, as I was told those were pretty good but frankly not sure I...
Read moreHello and welcome to my review. I’m a little tipsy (due to the brewer’s amazing beer selection), but as they say the drunken mind speaks the truth. I’d make a reservation for my family for a Sunday roast. I arrived early to have a prophylactic pint (as mentioned, great selection). The staff made me feel so welcome that I didn’t feel the slightest uncomfortable having a pint by myself (bear in mind that I’m a born and bred Stockholmer). Since my dad believes he’s one of the brits (because he knows to call Tottenham the spurs) and my mum being on the posh side (like asking if the wine is produced in the north or south valley of Côtes-du-Rhône), the pressure was high. But that turned out to be a complete waste of worrying. As the beef roasts and pork belly were served not a word was spoken for at least 3 minutes due to us being busy inhaling the delicious food. Even my I-don’t-eat-carbs-mum slayed the Yorkshire pudding. All to the sounds of the Kinks, Herman's Hermits and Noel Gallagher, and actual real life Brits conversing at the tables around us. 2 pints in I hear myself throwing around words like bloke, geezer, and cheers mate. I am now British. And as I Brit I highly highly recommend this pub.
Also, dogs are very welcome
TLDR; absolutely great restaurant, you...
Read moreMy favourite example of my favourite sort of place - I am so thankful they are here. I dearly love cask ale and British food. I nearly fell off the stool when I learned I could get a proper Sunday roast complete with Yorkshire puddings. A Wellington, delightful fish & chips - I'll stop there else I'll just end up reciting the current menu.
In addition to the food - which has always been stellar in my many visits - the whole "pub vibe" is another source of comfort for me and something I feel I have missed in Stockholm. A true sense of community, filled with friendly people, I can make a new friend, read a book, dump my thoughts into a journal - with a delicious cask ale at hand and the aforementioned selection of edible delights.
Never a dull moment, always thinking of my next visit - I am truly thankful that this place exists. Staff is always friendly, helpful, and patient (I tend to ask a lot of questions). Fantastic selection of beers and the food is...
