St. Alban Stübli — Restaurant in Basel

Amazing place offering elevated Swiss cuisine in a cozy ambiance.

Food: A relatively small menu of excellently prepared Swiss dishes, with a few exotic twists. Expect various meats, local produce, sweet water fish, fresh pasta. Even the simplest meals are amazing. I had literally the best chicken breast I've ever tasted last time we were there. The only drawback: if you're vegetarian or even vegan, the selection can be quite limited. But I am sure they'd try to accommodate your preferences.

Service: Top notch! Really makes you feel welcome. Nothing more to add!

Location: Central, yet quite area. The restaurant consists of a cozy indoor space, and a cute courtyard with olive trees is open in summer.

Price: For a great dinner for 2, expect to pay ~CHF200 to CHF250, depending on drinks/wine. I didn't feel a single tinge of regret at that price...

You would not expect that level of cuisine, that type of genuine hospitality, such a fantastic wholesome package, at this unique location. A fantastic star in Basel is shining beyond expectation, and far beyond Basel! Knowing the location from the former owner, the setting apart with this management and serving in the most guest centric manor is among the best I experienced world wide. Absolute class combined with a chef's ability to make the good reach perfection.

A wine list with a great attitude, without the ambition to be all and everything, but with an excellent selection of top, middle and affordable wines, with great class, again. Recommended, yes, by a mile ahead of so many...

My lunch time visit started off weirdly, I had made a booking I think a day or two earlier and had two confirmation emails. But when I arrived right on time, I was met with what I would describe as a hostile welcome - they literally said no, it's not possible there is a one person booking for a busy lunch hour. Had to show evidence even before they checked their system (where my booking was).

After this start I was however served by a very helpful younger lady and the food itself was extraordinary, especially the ravioli. Would have loved to give another try at dinner, but didn't have...
