Excellent experience all around! Food, service and atmosphere. You will not make a mistake coming here. My husband and I were super excited to try this Hungarian restaurant due to my Hungarian heritage and excellent reviews. It did not disappoint! The owner and his mother run this restaurant and you can tell that they put their heart and soul into all of it! I was able to speak a bit of Hungarian with the owners which topped the experience. The owner served us complimentary homemade smoked bacon that we absolutely loved. Unfortunately we forgot to take pictures of the meals as they came out as we were hungry and they tasted delicious so we kept on eating. The cabbage rolls and the “hortobágyi palacsinta” were both to die for. We are looking forward to coming in couple days to try paprikás and gulyás. Thanks Hoppla!
UPDATE: we came back to have dinner here again before we left Interlaken. Hopplá did not disappoint! The catfish paprikash and goulash were both out of this world! The owners were again super attentive and personable! We were glad to experience this both times. It shows consistency in both excellence in food and hospitality! We are so grateful to experience this! Thank...
Read moreIf you are ever in Interlaken, I so recommend doing dinner at Hopplá! This place has super tasty Hungarian food and wine for inexpensive prices, and the mother and son who own the place are friendly, hospitable, and know their food well.
I got their beef goulash, which is one of their most popular items, and it was excellent. The beef was so tender, and the spätzle was a perfect offset to the heaviness of the beef. I highly recommend their merlot with this dish!
My partner got one of their specials, peppers in tomato sauce stuffed with rice and meat. He said it was very tasty.
Later in the evening, it was just the two of them serving us and cooking. It's a smaller restaurant anyway, so it makes for a more intimate atmosphere; the son is very amiable and it can encourage conversation between patrons. Another plus with this place is it's on a quieter street and out of the way of the major tourist streets in Interlaken.
At the end, they gifted us a shot of unicum szilva, a liquor imbued with plums - it was so delicious!
Again, I highly recommend this place if you want a quieter, more intimate dinner with tasty, inexpensive Hungarian food served by attentive,...

*I hope tourists can see this and avoid visiting this restaurant.
*I’m not writing this review to let the restaurant reflect on their mistake, but to alert all potential customers.
We came here after seeing many good reviews on Google Maps. But from the moment we walked in, we were treated very differently. The staff waved and smiled warmly at the previous customer, but the moment she saw us, her expression changed instantly — she rolled her eyes, sighed loudly, and gave us attitude for no reason.
Throughout the entire meal, the same lady kept looking at our table, shaking her head, rolling her eyes, and acting like we had done something wrong — even though we were just quietly eating. Not long after, a group of non-Asian customers walked in. Her attitude did a full 180: she greeted them with smiles, served them kindly. The contrast was glaring and frankly, upsetting.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially in a place that serves international tourists.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AND LET IT RUIN YOUR TRAVEL EXPERIENCE.
