Interlaken West — Local services in Interlaken

I never saw such irresponsibility and disgrace in any of the countries I visited. I was there on 12th August 2024 and we first went to Interlaken Ost station. It rained heavily, ok, but it was not like the one in a lifetime. We got on a train and a few minutes later it was cancelled. We got on another train which was going to another city but it did not move and cancelled after minutes. Then we went to Interlaken West around 7 p.m. to try other alternatives. There, we heard that all the trains were cancelled until 2:00 a.m. We tried to go to the nearest city by bus but the buses were also cancelled. When I asked a bus driver how we can go to the nearest city, he said “maybe a helicopter can go”. There was nobody, no official worker or no open station office to guide the travellers in the station. We were all soaked and had to sit on the floor in the station with kids. After around 3-4 hours we got on a boat (it also departed late) and then went to another city other than our destination. I was so much disappointed with the service in...

Interlaken West is a small station which serves the central part of Interlaken. There is an information counter with staff to help in terms of information and the timeable. There are also shops and vending machines.

The only catch is, if you are travelling to Junfraujoch or anywhere else from here, take note that you most likely need to travel ONE STOP to the NEXT STOP at Interlaken Ost (East) to catch the Bernese Oberland train to Lauterbrunnen for the next train to Kleine Scheidegg. The last stop before the final train to the peak of Jungfraujoch.

Also from here, you catch trains to Lucerne etc for longer journeys....

A relatively small railway station. You can get trains to major cities like Bern, Lucern, Zurich from here. If you need to visit the mountain areas like Grindenwald Lauterbrunen you first need to go to Interlaken ost from here which is the next station to here. Station do provide lockers also to keep your luggage. Just opposite to the train station you can take the boat ride to Thun lake as well. Just outside you have plenty of eateries, sournier shops and accommodations. Nice place to base your stay to visit...
