One of the longer running places when it comes to sun cake. Conveniently located right at the corner, so it’s probably why it’s more popular than the other sun cake shops on the block.

A single one now costs $34 a piece, which has gone up a lot in price. Flavor is still pretty good, with the signature fluffy texture. Of course, for those who know the real history, the very original sun cake shop (太陽堂) was closed due to disputes, so this one is probably one of the better ones left. I’m not a big fan of sun cake, but when I do need to buy some, this is the one that I would come to, especially their ingredients are considered better than other...

Many years ago, I was introduced by a taxi driver to buy this must try famous 台中太阳饼。I bought one box and tried. The taste amazed me, and i am in love with this pastry. Everytime asking friends to help me buy, but not the same with the one I tasted before. This July, when i visited Taichung again. I couldn't remember the shop, but I was confused with too many brands. Walked in and tried a few shops, finally found the same taste again. Like the strong lard flavour and 香浓麦芽filling. Excellent service. Handed a suncake and tea as soon as you enter the shop. A lot of varieties and test tries to taste. About 6-7 people serving so service is very attentive. Sun cake is the best I’ve tried so far in Taichung, I tried a few others but they were disappointing. This one is very fresh and crisp perfectly. Turns to dust kinda ordeal when you bite into it. Sweetness is acceptable although a little less sweet would have made it perfect. Definitely coming back here to restock everytime I am...
