Antique Bar 1900 — Restaurant in Taipei

For those who have a taste for Irish Whiskey or the old fashion way of drinking Absinthe, this bar may just quench your thirst :) The Antique Bar 1900 is hidden away in central Dadaocheng, and brings one from 1860’s Taiwan right into the European era alongside Mucha and Klimt.

The bar is on the 3rd floor of the first Watsons in Taiwan. While in Taipei, I tried absinthe prepared the French way with a fiery twist.

They poured absinthe into a glass, placed a sugar cube over the rim, then lit it on fire using more absinthe. Once the flame burned out, a vintage brass fountain slowly dripped ice water over the sugar and into the glass. The drink turned cloudy as it mixed — that’s called the 𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭, and it’s a sign of real absinthe.

Really takes you back in time. The bar’s main theme is turn of the last century in Europe. Not much for scotch therefore, but a great collection of Irish Whiskeys, cocktail list with a knowledgeable staff. I had the Nigroni Sbagliato, and an easy absinthe cocktail with cucumber.
